2001 GSXR-1000... the rebirth

Posted in the Pub, but this will be my thread for tracking the longterm progress.

I bought this bike in MINT condition in 2003? I rode it bone stock for a year or two, then I looped a stoppie and figured "Fuck it"

When I bought it:

After I looped the stoppie, I rode it around like this for a while:

Then it got uglier and uglier:

Then I bent the front wheel pretty badly and it sat neglected for about 4 years:

And I decided to get working on it!

Front fender and brakes off:

Why I eventually stopped riding it... the bend in the wheel destroyed the front tires quickly:

YEARS of neglect... brake dust, burnt rubber, chain lube, engine oil, etc:

Getting clean:

Spraying the frame/swingarm/etc with black Plasti-Dip, which I suspect is a mistake. It won't last. I will probably respray it with black paint:

Wrapping the headers is a PITA!

headers wrapped (halfway, ran out of wrap), new tank on:

New wheels! Blacked out of course. Seat and cowl are just sitting on there. Not sure if I'm going to stay like this, or fab something:

Streetfighter! Probably single headlight, maybe a mini fairing, probably going to chop the tail off too...

Headlight and harness showed up this week.

Also decided to go nuts and I am going to chop the subframe in half. Rear passenger seat and pegs = gone. Wife = not gonna be happy.

Cheapy ebay fighter headlight is mocked up. Eventually I will do something nicer. I also chopped the subframe and undertray off. It probably won't look MUCH different than this when it's done. Now I just have to finish wrapping the headers, clean some things up and get to riding it!
