Quad 4 engine, not worth replacing.
Nothing but problems.

:shake: First of all, the 2.4 is a twin cam, its derived from a quad 4, but is NOT a quad 4. On top of that I got over 200k on the alero w/ a 2.4 doing nothing but routine maint. Still going strong, and it is beat on every time I drive it. My biggest problem with the car? It needed a clutch @ 100k, and struts @ 180k. Hell my real quad 4 in the beretta went 140k seeing 7200 rpm every day I drove it. and probably would have lasted longer if I had kept a closer eye on the lines for my engine oil cooler.
 
I have a alero with the same bad engine, Im doind a 3.4 swap in it though. Lower end is junk on the 2.4 if the upper is any help. let me know
 
i think that may be what i need, Something up top rattels when it gets up in R's other then that its fine.:sad:

i thought about doing a 3.4 swap or saying the hell with it and doing a L67 swap.

and i seem to be havinf truoble geting gaskets for it ..
 
does it sound like an angry type writer in the higher revs? if so replace the chain, gears, guides, and tensioners.
 
Where'd you guys get the info on the 3.4 swap? I've only heard of one L67 swap, is there a resource out there for this kind of thing?
 
Ok! So i need to find someone that rebuilds them, im looking at spending 1100 whitch is fine. But i want to know its going to be worth it. i have been looking on craigslist and ebay and nothing. and im Not spenting 2gs on one either..


can anyone help me out???
 
gm makes the longest living engines that i know of... i had an 89 grand prix that i tried to blow up but wouldnt... i put 200k miles on it with maybe 3 oil changes the whole time and that fucker was still running strong when i sold it... the only problem i had with it was the trans and that had 250k on it and ill be honest i beat the shit out of it...
