1st OFF ROAD Expierence

So I took my F-150 4x4 off road for the first time a few weeks back. Buried the truck a couple times at 21 mile and Fairchild, but all in all had a good time. So the next morning I notice a popping when I turn the wheel. No biggy because I was taking it into my buddy's shop in a week to do a once over on the whole truck (I just bought it).

So I get it to the shop and get her in the air. Right away I notice I snapped both swaybar endlinks in half! OK, well no biggy those can be replaced easily. So I take the wheels off and notice the front brakes are SHOT! The rotors were one big piece of rust! No biggy, so I order front rotors and pads. So while beating the ever loving shit out of the front passenger rotor (they were rusted on obviously) I notice A LOT of play in the front passenger wheel. I narrow it down to the lower balljoint. So I order one..

..well this is where it gets good! I take the brakes off, take the tie rod off, take the upper ball joint off and BOOM the whole assembly flies right off the axle. God damn lower ball joint snapped in half and I was driving on it for a week. This included two trips to the Detroit PD Recruiting Office off of the Davison FWY which is an hour from my house! Wow talk about lucky!

Replaced the fuel filter too, it was clogged. Maybe it will net me better than 13mpg!

CLIFFNOTES--
-First time off-roading
-Snapped both swaybar endlinks
-Snapped ball joint in half
-Drove on it for a week (on a hope and a prayer)
-Trucks are fun and $$

Wheeling gets very expensive. Hence the reason I won't wheel a DD.

Also, is it legal to go off road at 21 and fairchild? If not, keep it legal

If you're going to do any offcamber other than mudholes, you need to disconnect a swybar link before You go

buy a chevy... i never had anything break and i took it out every weekend for the 3 years i had it and i jumped and beat the shit out of it

Yeah wheelin a DD never works out in your favor. Too hard to keep the truck nice. You either dont wheel it and keep it nice or beat on it and not give a shit

:lmao: good job, you know what they say.... if you dont break anything you didnt drive it hard enough

Mines a pavement queen until I can get it in perfect shape (need to re-torque body mounts, repair CTIS, alignment). I have until january, then a weekend of off roading :D

I used to go out and do some light wheeling just about everyweeknd at alot of the spots we got around here in 00 Jimmy, was leveld out on 28" BFG AT's the thing was unstoppable for what it was, but after all 4 ball joints, 2 wheel bearings, a few abs sensors, then a cv shaft started going bad, and the trans started slipping, and the dash looked like a christmas tree, thankfully it got toatled out shortly there after! And mind you htink was over a 6 moth period and the truck had 75k on it when i bought it!

wheeling is expensive. my friends lifted silverado brakes everytime we go out. in the last two weeks we changed both front ball joints, replaced the u joint twice, broke both front cv shafts, and the tailshaft housing of the transfer case.

It is amazing how little breaks on the Hummer for the amount of off roading that it has done and the severity of the terrain it has been through.
Worst thing that has happend was the tc gave out and made the truck rwd. Yes 2wd Hummers can do burnouts.
