1998 S-10, 2.2L, 5 spd, 199K miles
This is my father in-laws trucks and I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what is wrong with it. It has lived a little to no maintenance life so he had my start with the maintenance items first since they were LONG overdue. The following items have recently been replaced: catalytic converter, rear O2 sensor, spark plugs, wires and coil packs, fuel filter and coolant temp sensors and IAT sensor - mostly all maintenance items. The TPS and MAP sensors were replaced because they were throwing codes when I had it checked at the local Autozone.
Problem is when it hits about 3000 rpm (no gauge), it falls right on its face. It does start up and run noticeably smoother since the tune-up. It currently tops out about 55 mph. It's not throwing any codes at the moment. You can be driving along pretty smooth but as soon as you hit a certain RPM (guessing around 3K), it starts sputtering and won't rev any higher. Almost feels like it has a governor. It you put the pedal to the floor it just sputters but doesn't completely die or kill the engine.
Anyone have any suggestions? The last code it threw was P0172 - bank 1 too rich.
Fuel pressure before start-up is around 45 psi and at idle is running in the higher 30's (gauge bounces around quite a bit).
Could it be FPR? If so, is it inside the intake manifold?
What about the ignition control module?
