1997 Ford Contour Head Gasket

Anyone replace one? Any recommendations for a average garage mechanic? I went to replace the plugs and wires in my girlfriends car last weekend and noticed oil around the spark plug boots. Thoughts are to replace the head gasket this weekend. It is a 4cylinder and everything is right on top with easy access so I'm thinking of doing it myself and saving her some coin.

why would you have to replace the head gasket for that reason? I can see a valve cover gasket but a head gasket wont get oil in there.

You are right, sorry someone was talking to me about it and I was destracted when I posted this. Valve cover gasket I am thinking.

The valve cover gasket is an extremely easy job, go for it. When you purchase the valve cover gasket, the four o-rings for the spark plug wells do not come with it on the VCT engines usually(at least from the Ford dealership) so make sure and check.
