If you had 10k to choose any truck or SUV to tow a race car on an open trailer what would it be and why?

Pretty broad question. How big of a trailer, tools, pit ride, how often are you gonna be pulling a trailer? how far? All things to consider.

If your pulling a small, light open trailer and just a car, a 1/2 truck will work. If your pulling a larger trailer, with other things on it and more often 3/4 ton truck is going to benefit you. I personally am used to 3/4-1 ton vehicals so pulling a trailer with a 1/2 truck doesnt feel right even tho its rated for it.

Finding a clean 1/2 ton in that price range is going to be much easier then a 3/4 ton.

For now it'd be a small open trailer that's just enough to hold the camaro. Only be towing a couple times a month at most for no more than an hour one way, otherwise it'd be my DD. If I get it before TX2K I'll be doing about a 4-5 hour trip with a trailer.

Of course that is my truck. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. An old friend who used to be a VP at Ford is selling his 2006 F-250 4 door Super Crew for a pretty good price. He retired a few years back and moved to Tennessee...So, I am looking to sell my 2003 Chev. All of the maintenence is up to date, including the transmission fluid, oil change, new brakes and a tune-up including wires. Ohhh, and the fiberglass cap goes with it and I can deal! :)

Youre in TX, get a clean 2wd RCSB. Theyre cheap down there and its fun to drive the rest of the year as well. Mine tows just fine

I agree with Raj. A lot of people pull small 18-20 ft trailers with a car on it and use a 1/2 ton and will tell you ot works great. At that point tho, the truck is pretty maxed out with its towing and the idea of a larger trailer or throwing more on the current trailer ( golf car etc) is not an option.

I know your a chevy guy and usually the Chevy 3/4 tons go for more money then the fords but keep your eye out on the 3/4 tons trucks. There are good deals to be had if you look for them.

You can get 99-00 Lightnings that cheap right? That'll pull a Camaro on a small open trailer just fine. Still pull decent mileage doing it. And when you don't have the trailer hooked up, you have a Lightning to have some fun with.

You guys are all wrong :~)

Yes an Impy or Marauder will do it all day and ride like a caddy. Didnt someone here tow his lightning with his marauder?

Im in the same boat but I'm towing maybe 3 times a year....ive been looking at trailblazers, 1500 trucks, and even hemi magnums.....ill be using the tow vehicle as a dd too so i want to also enjoy driving it with 15mpg or more..... i thought lightnings only picked up 14 mpg max not towing.
