1000cc choice

ain't no way that a 636 does 174mph.

It sure does. I've done it twice, on 94 headed east long stip befor wahdams exit.
174 at 15,300 rpm that's all she's got. She's all stock except for a yoshi slip on with mid pipe.

No effing way. The liter bikes are hard pressed to do 180mph bone stock and that's pushing close to 180hp. There's no way that a 115-125hp 600 touches 170mph, let alone 174mph. Bike speedos are notorious inaccurate as they near top speed. An '03 636 tops out around 162mph in every review you can find.

And yes, I had an '05 636, so I speak from experience.

well what the speedo says is 174 so to me it 174. Find me a cool cop an shoot it see what it says lol. Got tagged the other day at 133 an speedo said 135 as I was flyin around a turn. Needless to say He let me
go free for some reason

Do the math and you can see what the speed really was. Probably 150.

He tagged you at 133mph, while you were flying through a turn (and looking at the speedometer), and he managed to catch you and let you go?

:bs:

Yes Saturday I was in 5 gear going around a turn on 94 just passed the marysville over pass. I looked down 135. Looked up he was sitting onthe turn around. Dark grey tahoe. I just pulled over befor he even pulled out. He asked the usually an said "slow down an get a endorsement"! I about shit my pants. I never have that luck!

Modern Liter bike a so close most of the comparisons are just nit picking. I have had several Liter bike by most manufacturers and most recently a Triumph Daytona 675. I currently ride an 04 R1, which does trackdays at Grattan and Milan drag strip passes. My advice is if you are going to consider the occasional drag strip passes don't get a bike with a "stacked transmission." All of the R1 have this, recently the CBR and GSXR have gone to it as well. Not really sure about the Kawi (I made a promise to myself not to own another one of Kawi after my ZX9R). The advantage of stacked tranny is centralized mass and you can reduce the bikes length while making the swing arm longer, for better traction and feel. The downside is the clutches sit higher and are not subjected to as much oil to keep them cool. The result it they don't hold up as long at the drag strip. As easy fix is to add a oil cooling line of stiffer springs.

Regarding the bikes performance most will far exceed 99% of the riders and are far faster than you can ride. Almost every liter bike with hit 80 plus in first gear. If you are going to do track days at a rode course either you won't push any of these bike close to their limits or you will need to make suspension and tire upgrades.

Rider is 95% of the performance of a bike with the exception of the rolling start freeway blast to see what bike pulls harder. I just did a track day last Sunday at Grattan, there was not bike there I could run down on the straight away on my 04 R1 which is mostly stock (included stock exhaust). It comes down to drive of the corner or if you are drag racing your 60' time which are a bitch a powerful stubby bike. Don't rule out the R1 because it lack the "punch" of the other bikes, also note later CBR's burn oil. All the bikes have pros and cons go on some of the forums or to see them all head to Royal Oak on a Thursday night.

Since you can't use all of the power on the street pick a color, or a style, or a brand, or the bike that fits you the best, or the one you get the best deal on they are all so close it won't matter Although you are correct about the early ZX10 they are very volatile bike.

Get a decent leather and an good helmet and don't be a DB and ride in shorts and a tank top.

Find a radar gun

Duct tape a Garmin or Tom Tom GPS to your tank. You speedo is going to be off by a percentage. The faster you go the more its off and its always optimistic. If you are seeing 174 its has to be close to 18% off, which seems high for a bike with only a slip on. If you changed your sprockets or tires it will throw of the speedo as they pick up at the counter shaft in the tranny.

Quoted for truth. After almost 18 years of riding on the street, I've gone back to riding 600s. I don't care for the dick swing contests (roll on expressway races), so I'd rather enjoy something light and fun in the corners. After all, a wheelie is just a dip of the clutch away on any modern bike.

I do like the Triumph Daytona 675 but still am not settled for sure on the 600cc idea. I'm 5'10 @165 lbs. Hopefully I end up liking this zx10r.

I have a friend with an 07 ZX10 (blue in color) in his garage with less than 1000 miles on it and I'm sure he would give you a great deal if you are really interested.
