I'm just watching tv and I see a commercial suggesting to companies to move to Michigan for the available talent, assistance, etc,... While that isn't very interesting, the fact that I'm in Norway seeing this means that somebodies at least making an effort to find jobs outside of other states.

What I think the US really needs to do as a whole is start spamming tourist ads everywhere. With a weak dollar, the rest of the world can go over and empty their wallets. I think that'll have a faster impact on the economy than trying to negotiate with a company to move to Michigan, setup, then start hiring.

I agree with you totally. Except that Michigan has ZERO reason to attract a company. Higher cost of living, higher expectations on salary, potential politics with unions, almost no tax benefits and some of the highest state business income taxes in the country.

All are very true. But even with tax breaks, the other factors weigh heavily against the state. Not to mention the weather, and the generally awful perception of Detroit by most people in the country.

Well Norway has some of the highest taxes, so Michigan doesn't sound that bad. Perhaps they should mention that minimal employee benefits (here women get 6 months off for having a kid, the dads get 3 months, all paid). People get paid for their kids until they turn 18 (including about a 6k initial amount to help cover common baby items,...). A country like this does good in industry by being innovative and having high technology. The commercial was very short, but there is a lot of talent in Michigan, that could appeal to foreign companies.
