who says an LT1 has to have an optispark?
Have you ever dealt with an OPTI personally anyway?
looks like a nice car, im just not a huge fan of the formulas

LT1's do have opti sparks.. my bro had one and 4 opti's per summer due to the cam shaft and moisture building up. You can change it over to ls style conversion with coil packs but you still use part of the opti, which is the wheel and that can go bad..

yeah I know that they come factory with them :lol:
but you no longer have to use the opti at all. Mine is run with a 24x crank sensor and a 1x cam sensor in a special housing. It has a 2002 LS1 PCM. OPTI is totally off the motor

They didn't have that back in 95-98, then we were introduced to the ls1.. which we switched to due to expensive opti spark changes.

Lol, that's what i'm saying.. Val's LT1 ran strong but just couldn't take the opti maintenance. We drove his car to the track in 1999 with slicks in the trunk and changed them there and ran 11.1 with a 4l60e trans in it and a 383 stroker, N/A. Car was fun, but when we got home, opti spark needed changing.

I've personally never had a problem with an opti, but high rpm kills them and I turn mine pretty high. Thats why I am making the conversion and ditching the opti.
The 96+ pcm only has tables to 7100 rpm as well. and the earlier pcms would actually just hit a wall at that rpm. With an LS1 pcm I wont have to worry about that limit, its better all around. Plus HP Tuners/EFI Live is 1000x better than tuning with C.A.T.S

X2 - but I like everyone else thinking my car is going to blow up if i rev over 6k :lol:
I also think auto cars with big stalls are hardest on optis - when high RPM is maintained the entire length of the track, that heat builds up.
sadly my car is in the shop for the same reason as that LT4

Yes i have. Certifeid Mechanic that was a heavy gm mechanic for a few years. And grew up with Lt1s that all had opti spark issues until i repaired them. About 15-20 of them anyway.

wasnt doubting you, im not for a second going to try to make the opti seem like its a good thing. But its really not as bad as some people make it out to be. I have never had an issue with one, but do understand that others arent as lucky
