1/8 Mile or 1/4 Mile

Drag racing is 1/4 mile. Period. Not 600 feet, not 100 feet, etc. It's 1320..

Don't tell that to Top Fuel and Funny Car.

I don't care who they are - if they aren't running a 1/4 I think it's boring as shit from a spectator point-of-view.

If 1/4 mile is unsafe for the big boys then they need to handicap it so the cars slow down a little bit where it can be made safe (within reason).. What next .. 200mm turbos and they can just race the first 100' ?

Obviously the faster you go the less safe it is if you plow into the wall. But why stop at the 8th? Wouldn't it be safer to just run for 330'? Why not just 60'?

Sorry - 1320 is drag racing. They need to slow the cars down to make it safe to run a full 1/4. Handicap it so the sport can be something more impressive than whoever can write the biggest check.

Be safer to stay inside. The point is that it's easier and more common to go fast compared to the old days. And people are going very fast with relatively heavy vehicles. 12-sec cars used to be trailered to the track. Technology can do a lot but it can't change 1/2 m v^2.
