I know this subject has been talked about forever but, my question is, is there anyone on here that runs both?, Do you find your stuff is breaking more often in the 1/4? I've run pretty much 1/8 mile but have run the 1/4 a few times. I know your stuff can break no matter what, but it seems breakdowns happen more often in the 1/4. Maybe i'm full of shit, what do you guys think?

For a fast car, the first 1/8 mile goes by pretty fast....the last 1/8 you still have time to think about what you may have missed. I HATE watching 1/8 mile but I'm looking forward to NOT packing the chute and using half the ice, etc. The turnaround time will be way faster with 1/8 running OLS. Nitrous cars will use a lot less nitrous for sure!! From a spectator standpoint I think it sucks, but for the driver/ owners it's not really terrible. Slower cars 1/4 all the way!!

I figured it was a saftey issue, dont get me wrong i agree to a point, it gets scary.
It's not so much scary as just realizing the physics of the situation and opting not to take on the additional risk. I love the feel of acceleration which happens to be at a minimum the back half of the track. 99% of races are over by the 1/8th and the most challenging part of the race is really the first 330' so going another 660' offers minimum gratification in exchange for a lot more physical risk (1/2 m v^2).

I was good 'til we hit the bolded part, then you lost me.

Geek.

Don't explain it...I'm too old to care!!

Personally, I like the 1/8, it seems you cut a good lite, hit your shift point you can be very consistant, I agree most races are over in the 1/8, why keep going another 1/8? I don't buy the theory that it's always been that way. Most people way back when that raced a lot of 1/4 mile were people that had sponsors and could afford the breakdowns. Why beat on your car for another 1/8 mile? JMO.

I've always heard the argument that the majority of engine breakage is past the 1000 ft mark. At least for the big boys.

O.K, poor choice of words, until recently 1/4 mile was dragracing, now Top Fuel and Funny Cars won't run that far for safety reasons. Nowadays we have a choice 1/4 or 1/8, It's our choice now, does it mean when we run 1/8 it's not true drag racing? I don't think so. Drag racing has come a long way, 1/4 times are scary fast now, I think there is a lot less breakdowns running 1/8, which was my original question.

1/4 mile I only race 1/8 mile when I have no other choice and I have a low 9 second car and a 10 second bike

I never liked 1/8 mile until my son started racing his Junior Dragster. When they have their Jr. Dragster Quick 16, that's only 330'. The Quick 16 race seems way to quick.

Now with my car, I would rather run 1/8 mile, the 2nd half, the car isn't gaining much.
