Well... a girl i work with has a 98 1500 in very nice shape. The truck had a long crank problem (seemed like a weak fuel pump but i dont have a gauge to check anything)
she let the truck sit for a week and we are slated to deploy soon. so she wanted me to look at it before she leaves the keys with someone else.
the first start after sitting for a week was fine. she drove it and parked it-1/2 hour later it was a no crank no start. let it sit for 1 hr and it was fine. she looked at the fuses and some were loose so she reinstalled them-they arent corroded
she went to start the truck this morning and nothing. let it sit for 30 min and it started. I have not been able to witness it happen yet but im going to look more into it on monday
My first few thoughts were a Security fault since the started never even clicked. possible a hall effect sensor in the ignition- no chip in the key or possibly a broken magnet in the starter motor
Could be a poor connection at some battery, starter cable, starter to engine block, or ground strap.
the previous owner used the truck to go mudding and the dealer that sold the truck to her appears to have powerwashed/detailed the engine bay. there is mud pretty high up into the engine bay so i was going to check the bottom of the fuse block and the PCM connectors for mud or corrosion.
Visually everything looks awesome but seeing as there is mud all the way up to the AC compressor and intake manifold im assuming there is mud in a connector or something corroded in a hidden spot.
Everything on the truck works and there are no faults or lights when cranking or running.
Is there anything im missing? Im not too familiar with GM (spent most of wrenching years at Mercedes and Lexus)
