06 f-250 diesel mods question

hi everyone im new here and my buddy tnum01 thought i could get some help here. i have a 06 f-250 with the 6.0 turbo diesel in it and i have just finished ordering the rest of my parts for the truck, which include banks turbo back 4" monster exhaust, high ram intake, banks ram air intake, and which i have had now for some time the banks six guns tuner with the I.Q. now i have the read a lot about these trucks and the head gaskets blowing so i got some arp head studs and i was going to do one at a time so i wouldn't need to get a new head gasket. now doing some other reading i, i have read that in that process i should get my heads decked and new gaskets put on. my question is, is that really necessary and i can do them one by one or should i have it decked and put in new head gaskets? any advice would be great!! thanks in advance and if anyone knows of a good place that does it if needed that would be great also

EGR cooler is the weak link. Get a EGR delete / head studs and have the heads decked. From my research on this...doing them one at a time will not work.

anyone else can chime in if i'm wrong.

FYI: I have a 05 F350 6.0L Harley Davidson that will be getting everything mentioned above after my warranty runs out.

Our 6.0 blew a head gasket at 32k miles. If your going thru the work to take the heads off I would think its cheap insurance to replace the gaskets while your at it. We did ARP studs, ERG delete at 32k a new turbo at 40k and havent had a problem since. The truck is a F550 that is always loaded, or pushing snow or working one way or another. Zero issues other then whats listed above.

like everyone else said, egr delete head studs and new gaskets. and get the heads decked. trust me if your modding the truck at all its worth it. (its worth it even if your not modding it lol) and be prepared to pull the cab off of the frame to do it.

You do not need to pull the cab. Hallas did ours and didnt pull it off. I didnt want it off, once that shit is taken apart and put back together its never the same.

as stated above, but also dont tow 10k with the switch chip in anything over 2. its not meant for that.

the banks exhaust is WAY over priced. mine had " from the turbo back, with muffler for $280 shipped. stainless steel. believe it was cobbs diesel performance.com

pulling the cab is WAY eaiser as thats the factory recomendation too.

replace the coolant. DO NOT use the ford shit.

go to your local CAT dealer and buy 5-6 gal of ELC.

particals in the factory coolant harden. blocking the oil cooler, causing higher oil temps....which is not good. eventually it causes the head gasket to pop. ( cant remember the sequence right now )

get a scanner to monitor oil and coolant temps.... if after getting up to temp ( operating temp is 190 ) the oil temp is more that 15degrees higher, you got a blocked oil cooler. get it fixed NOW not later. alot cheaper to save it than to repair it.

Are there any 6.0 mechanics on the board who moonlight. I have a 6.0 that is only showing roughly 600psi injector rail pressure. Would like someone to come out to our shop and take care of it. 14& Dequindre

Well, here is one way to fix it......

This is an amazing truck and I have had a blast working on it. I dont keep anything long so I thought I might sell this and move on to the next project. The truck is in great condition. The only issue is that it did receive some hail damage in a recent storm. I replaced the hood but the roof still has dents in it. You cannot see them because it is the roof I did not care because the truck is paid for and a blast to take on trips or tow my racecar to the track. The truck runs great and I have had it converted a year now. I have put about 10k miles on it with no issues.

I would like to get $22,499 considering the hail issue (which you cannot see) but I am open to offers.

thanks everyone!! you have been a great help. the only reason im getting the banks exhaust is i got a great deal for getting all this at once. once you break it down with the discount i got i think it came to $397 for the exhaust. would anyone here know someone that would be able to do the studs and decking??

im going to have to check on the oil cooler now just to make sure. thanks for that. whats so different about the cat coolent?

If you end up wanting someone to do the work for you I'd definitely reccamend hallas performance. He's at his shop full time now and is very experienced with the 6.0s. He can get you a decent deal on an sct programmer too

Mike Hallas is pretty much #1 for 6.0L diesel's...........he'll be doing mine for sure.

I prefer an IDP tune over a Hallas. I had a buddy with a Hallas tune on a studded 05 stroker, and instantly picked up 2.5 MPG switching to a IDP tune. It also seemed to pull harder as well.
