03' Silverado Transformation!

Well as we all know spring is taking it's sweet time coming here, but that doesn't mean you can't have a clean ride! Now anyways, I just spent about 20+ hours over the weekend cleaning up this truck. The truck is owned by a fellow member (Allthrottle) and it has most definitely seen its fair share of drive-thru car washes, along with improper care which made for a LONG weekend! The previous owner was side-swiped basically all down the passenger side of the truck before the current owner bought the truck, so the damaged area was repaired a few days before i received the truck so I had to take extra precaution around the fresh paint. The front bumper was also off of the truck while I had it, and the hood on it is being replaced with a Silverado HD hood as well.

On to the before pictures!

The whole truck was covered in scratches similar to this, which took some heavy compounding via rotary

Badges on the pillars would be removed, along with the molding on both doors

Getting taped up to avoid staining the delicate trim

Scratches were evident everywhere on the truck! Both of pillars were compounded via rotary with a 4" Lake Country pad with m105 and cleaned up very well

Part of a scratch on the drivers side front fender, cleaned up pretty good but not 100%

The tailgate had seen its fair share of abuse too

Not cool

A quick 50/50 on the roof, left side was compounded via PC7424xp with an orange 5.5" pad using Fast Gloss 400

Roof done with FG-400, finished down pretty good for such an aggressive compound

50/50 on the passenger side bed, compounded again with FG-400 via pc7424xp

Not bad for a DA polisher

After polishing on the bedside, compounding was followed up by Menzerna SF4000 applied via 7424

I didn't get many other pics during the correction process  but the transformation of the paint was very evident through out the detail process, Friday and Saturday night were some late 3 AM nights working on the truck but the hard work paid off in the end! During the process I also tinted the front windows 20%. So now on to the after pics!

Not much sun to help with the picture taking :thumbsdow

After the polishing process, I applied a layer of Chemical Guys Blacklight which was allowed to bond overnight, then topped it with Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant.

Here's a quick pic snapped today of the front bumper being put back on.

Most of the correction was done via PC7424xp with Menzerna Fast Gloss 400, heavy compounding was done via rotary with a 6" Meguiars cutting pad with m105 or 4" Lake Country compounding pads with m105. Then for the polishing step, the entire truck was done with Menzerna SF4000 on a black Lake Country finishing pad via DA, some areas had more than 1 application but finished down extremely well! Finally, the truck was sealed with a coat of Chemical Guys Blacklight, which was topped by Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant. It's always an awesome feeling seeing the finished product on jobs like this too!

Hopefully with spring on the horizon I'll have a few more projects to share too!
