03 GM 4.8Liter?????????

alright i have been shopping for a lsx alumn block complete wiring harness and ecm for my rock crawler and i can't find 1 if i do these people think there gold so i have been looking a 5.3 liter and I found some good deals but today I find a 4.8 liter at a really good deal almost to hard to pass up .

so here's the ? I have is are these motors any good
2nd how much power difference is it to a 5.3

The 5.3's are getting some good HP #'s but I bet the TQ would be higher with the 6.0L

I just saw a 6.0 block and heads for like $300 on craigslist, not to mention a few other LSx engines for sale here.

I like the alum 5.3 and its way cheaper than the LS2.
 
My dad drove a 2wd pickup with a 4.8 and 4.11 gears as his company vehicle for a while. That little motor likes to rev!

the 4.8 is a de-stroked 5.3 (83mm vs 92mm). Same bores.... They still have good torque and good power. From talking to calibration guys, they throttled the 4.8 back a bit to not overlap the 5.3 so much when they were first introduced.

Horsepower in an 03 will probably be down about 15 from a 5.3, along with down about 20 ft-lbs on torque. Chip/tune it and that'll change!

If you pass it up, I may have a little work project that could use one depending on details.
 
the ssr and trail blazer had the first alum 5.3s lm4
2005-07 l33 truck 5.3s(HO) are alum too
LH6 and LC9 are also alum 5.3
