Ok, it is a 2002 300M Special Edition.
3.5L Engine

It has 150,000 miles. I bought it with 70,000 on it so I know atleast 80k of those miles are HARD miles.

Anyways, was cruising down the road at about 45 mph and the car just died... it'll crank over but wont start. Fuel pump comes on and it has plenty of fuel in the tank. Checked all fuses.

Would this be a cam or crank sensor? Maybe both? Or maybe a timing belt issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Pics or diagrams of the cam and crank sensor or the front half of the engine would be great.

How does the engine sound when you crank it? Does it sound like it's cranking faster than usual? Timing belts are known for jumping on these engines. A friend of mine had the same thing happen to his and it was because the belt jumped. I'm not sure if this is a zero interferance engine or not. If it's not then the valves/rockers may be bent or broken from the valves hitting the pistons in which case it's time for a new motor. If it's just a sensor, usually after a few cranks it will set a code for either a cam or crank sensor. You could pull the codes to see if one is there for either or it might even set a sync code for the belt jumping.

From my expierience, when a customer brings in a car equipped with a timing belt and the complaint is " was drving down the road and it just died"... usually timing belt has broke.

When cranking look at the tach. IF it isnt moving, then its probably the crank sensor. But with that mileage i wouldnt rule out timing belt.
