Yard Sale Gold…

I hit my first yard sale of the year today.
I purchased everything in this photo for $12.

“Yard Sale’n ain’t just for women!”

Items were about 80-85% new, unopened, unused.
(Hundreds of dollars worth of car care goodies)

yeah I just claybar'd my truck (an amazing process that works so well its unbelieveable) and i guess its ready for you to buff that polishing compound on it.

:)

It angered me how much i spent at Orielys.. $45 for Rain-x Soap, Mothers Claybar Kit, Meguires Detail spray(only 4.99), and Simple Green....

I have a few folks (other website) that didn't see any value in this purchase of mine!

I did get a jug of a "liquid claybay", just can't see it in the photo.

Nice score! Throw away the Turtle Wax Compound (aka rocks in a bottle) and keep all of the Meguiar's stuff. Liquid claybar is probably junk and not a substitute for a real clay bar treatment. But you did well!

So what old guy died? Most of that stuff is nice stuff.

After buying way too expensive clay and briefly using it once, I don't understand what's so special about it...? It takes as much effort as a very fine auto polish cleaner (like Old Number 7) and just as long when done by hand. Granted, it doesn't remove clear or any single stage, but my experience is that if you have deposits that clay will remove you also have a lot of fine scratches.

I used to use Meguiar's NXT 2.0 sealer but have since given up on it. Most of the Meguiar's stuff started going downhill shortly after 3M bought them which is strange. But it does Look nice for a sealer, lasts better than carnauba wax (like Mother's) but not nearly as nice looking, but still isn't that great. I have since switched to Rejex (mostly because it lasts so long) but it isn't as pretty.

Good info, thank you!

The key to NXT 2.0 (like all other products I've ever used) is to apply it SUPER thin. It's also my favorite smelling wax ever. I've been asking Michael Stoops to make an NXT air freshener for years.

For price, have you tried Collinite? 845 is usually my go to for daily drivers. You are hard pressed to find anything other than a coating that will last longer (Collinite 476 is their longest lasting, but not as easy to use). 845 provides a ridiculous amount of gloss.

my parents just dumped all of my old vhs stuff on me in boxes. More than a few monster truck videos, "And they walked Away", and "Havoc" crash videos...also a half dozen old Rally tapes, Dakar, etc.

I may or not be involved with a car detail shop in Plymouth. If you guys want somewhere indoor, with all the stuff to clean your car on the westside let me know.

If it's mine, I apply it all by hand. If I'm doing other people's junk I usually use air tools. It's easy to put it on thin by hand. I switched away from waxes a long time ago (when Mother's started going downhill, probably 15 years ago? Whenever they came out with that stupid ball for aluminum and the aluminum polish went from metal containers to plastic). Meguiars NXT 2.0 had been my standby since then, trying other stuff on and off depending on the paint type and color. I'm always willing to try new stuff on my wife's leases first.

Collinite 845 is really nice for a wax. Looks way better than any sealer I've found. It works better if you warm it up under the hot water in the kitchen sink for a while. Collinite 476 seems to be a bit of a hybrid but is a PITA to get off. I thought it'd work good on a helmet. Reminds me of paste Raindance wax from the 80s/90s, impossible to get off. If I had a classic car I'd definitely use Collinite on it. But on a daily driver with factory paint that spends its time on the expressway earning stonechips don't know if it is worth the effort. I didn't know Collinite had a boat/gelcoat wax but I bought some last year to give it a whirl. Ever try that?
