WTF? Ferrari 458 runs 11s at 132mph STOCK?

I think the record for a stock ZR1 on street tires is 10.7@ 132. Think its half the cost too. Sure the Ferrari is better built, but in the realm of supercars, its average. Hell my Z06 traps at 132 and there is less than $100,000 into it, but no warranty I know.....

That's a quantum leap for a midengine V8 Ferrari. 430 was sort of quick, 360 was dog slow. They've always been good drivers but never been much for acceleration. Now it's got mind numbing acceleration to go with the rest of the package.

The thing about the 458 is that you can do that on autopilot. I know if you get Jamie or Ranger or a guy that puts in time at the strip to run a good number in a ZR1, but you can take off from the light at Woodward and 14 and run a 11.1@131 in a 458. I have a buddy that just got one and that's what he ran in his using his vBox on the street.

Still, I agree that there's no way in hell a 458 is worth $300k. I remember when people were asking way over $250k for 430 Spyders, and I've seen them go as low as $110k recently. Brutal.

Sure the Ferrari is better built

I wouldn't say that. I don't know of many ZR1s that have burnt to the ground because the glue in the rear wheel wells got too hot

Ferraris have a fairly long history of being very fragile and catching fire

True, but I was referring to quality of materials and fit and finish more than engineering. I have more faith in my LS7 than any exotic built engine, same for the drivetrain. But make no mistake, the interior does not reflect a $72,000 msrp. It is mind blowing how many 458s are becoming bbqs.

The current car I respect is the PDK 911 turbo S, the baby Veyron. Runs 10.8s stock and my Mom could do it. Now that is amazing.

Ferrari's are better built? I wouldn't count on that. Sure maybe some of the materials are nicer or more exotic, but as far as quality goes I'd completely disagree. And I wonder the origin of the video knowing how Ferrari handles 3rd party testing of their vehicles...

I own a z06 which I dd in the summer and have driven Ferraris. The prancing horse has a tighter more rigid chassis, better use of materials, and just has a better overall feel to it. Windows, doors, steering, brakes etc. That is all I am saying. Cachet aside, there are reasons why people pay 3 times or more what I have in my car, for a slower, less track worthy prancing horse that has ridiculous maintenance costs, huge depreciation, and is an overall pain in the ass to own.

That said, I don't and never have trusted the Euro supercars to be reliable and durable. They may win me over one day, but for now if you want to go fast with reliability and durability in mind (with minimal mods) - I am a Z06ZR1/Ford GT/911 Turbo guy.

I don't think a 458 is going to go that fast on the average day. Keep in mind that ET and trap speed was done at the fastest track in the country. The 458 is more of a 126-127 mph car than what you see in the original video.

I think the chances of a 458 running a time and trap that fast is the same likelihood of a stock Z06 going 10s @130+. Sure it is possible and has been done, but conditions MUST be perfect. JMHO

BTW, I do think the 458 is the baddest car out on the market today, that is until the new Tesla, errr, McLaren comes out..=)
