WTB: (one) LS6 bare casting

I picked up a pair of LS6 heads but one of them had a run-in with a piston after a rod let go. The valvetrain is still good so I just need a bare casting. Anybody have anything laying around?

Thanks,
Matt

got picture of the damage?. Could it be repaired. Hint/Tip the LS2 casting is the same so you could use that with the sodium filled valves. try gmpartsdirect.com

Think this head is salvagable? Would it be ok for a core on a new set of ported heads?

(Sorry for the bad picture quality. These are camera phone pics.)

it would cost more to fix it then its worth. Check Gm partdirect or Scoggin dickey the ls2 casting is the same head with different valves. it definately could be fixed but not worth the cost IMO.

Thanks Sean. I sent the pics to Rick at Livernois and Dan Millen took a look at them and said the same thing. They're going to the crap yard.

Matt:

Seans right, the LS6 head is not all that uncommon and the bare casting should be in the $200-250 range. The "LS6" head casting is used on all the new 2007 5.3l V8 truck engines, the FWD impala engines, the LS2 as well as the 2005+ 5.3L engines in the Envoy Denali's, Rainiers, and V8 Trailblazers.

The $$ value in the real LS6 head assemblies are the sodium valves. If you have those in the damaged head, then just get new castings..

How are those spare GTO wheels holding up?

Hey Mike. I know all about the LS6 castings. I was going to get these for $50 for the pair so if they were good enough for cores, I was going to trade them in on a decent set of ported heads from Livernois. The valves in this set of heads wasn't event that good. One valve was only a stem and most of the others had pieces of ring stuck between the valve and the seat.

I'll send you a PM on the wheels.
