Looking for a 30-30 Marlin rifle. PM me details or post a link if you know where one is for sale.

Thanks!

they are nice rifles, what kind of hunting are you looking to do with it? if it is just deer this will be more than fine but i bought a .35 whelan that is great for anything basically in the world. it dropped a 2200 lb bison at 300yrds with one shot and the buffalo only took two steps. and its basically setup the same lever action and all.

It's mostly for range shooting and possible deer hunting. I hear a lot of great things about the Marlin rifles. I've shot the 44 version. Almost blew my eye out, lol. Was a little much for what I want. 30-30 seems reasonable for both range and deer hunting rifle.

lol, they are very reliable guns i do like lever actions a lot. i would check out gunbroker.com or hit gander mtn, or cabelas they have a decent used gun selection you should be able to find one at a great price.

30-30 is a great deer gun

was the 44 one you shot a 44 magnum? if yes, the 30-30 has quite a bit more kick

but i would say that if you want it for the range and possible for a little deer hunting i would recommend a .243 not much sting at all but plenty to drop a deer inside 200yrds. which most shots taking on Mi deer are inside 100yrds

If you want a marlin Lever go with the .35 or 45-70.
The 30-30 is nice but better all around is the .35.

My Dad and Brother both have them and swear by the .35

I have been keeping an eye out for a 45-70 for a while now!
All these above are great little short rifles. Great for Michigan Woods and going through Brush. My .270 and 30-06's are just to long and overkill for the hunting we do.

I do have a really nice old Marlin 30-30 but is a Family Heirloom being passed down from my late Grandmother. It is for my Daughter if she chooses to use it.

EDIT: I know gander Mountan in Shelby had 3 or 4 Lever Action's (USED) there about 2 weeks ago. Might want to try there.

Thanks for the heads up. I will check it out.

30-30s are great deer rifles and do not kick hard at all. I have two Marlins and they are dead nuts reliable, easy to service, handy to carry and with the new Hornady lever evolution ammo I get sub 1" groups at a hundred yards. My son took his first deer last year with one and it was a 140 pound doe. Slammed it like it was hit with a cannonball at 95 yards. It literally slammed it to the ground. If you're using the good ammo and don't plan on shots past 200 yards I don't think you will ever need another rifle for deer hunting. Another bonus is the 30-30 ammo is relatively cheap and you can find it anywhere. Some of the others aren't as readily available.

That was a marlin .444 that you shot at the range, I think that is pretty close to what a 45-70 would be.

Yeah, the .444 had way too much kick for what I want.

I did some shopping at Gander Mountain today. They had a few Marlin's. 2 30-30's and 1 .35 Right around 350-399.

dante1120 has a GREAT deal on a 30-06 in the yard sale on here. i think he wants $400 for it. in a decent economy he would get atleast 500 for it

Dont shy away from the .35

Yes rounds are more than the 30-30, but ask yourself how much are you going to shoot it after sighting it in?
I bet you are not going to be taking this rifle to have fun at the range all the time.
To me it is a no brainer.

I found a .35 version last night at Gander. Price was around 350-399 I believe. Not sure if this is a good price or not.

How difficult is it to find .35 ammo? I noticed last night at Gander they had just a 1x1 column for .35 and they were completely out.

Somebody on MGO just sold a gorgeous Marlin 1895GS guide gun in 45/70 in stainless, and it went pretty cheap too. I really wish I had had the money to pick it up myself.

It is really just personal preference and I just went for the 30-30 mainly because of the cheaper and more readily available ammo. As an FYI I bought both of my 30-30s within the last couple years and both were nearly mint. I paid $200 for one at a gun show and $220 for one off of MGO. The Leverevolution ammo for 30-30 can be had for under $20 bucks on sale. If you're plinking you can get Remington Core lokt on sale with rebates for $9.99 a box. As far as deer are concerned dead is dead and most of the guys I know that have both .35 and 30-30s say the deer are just as dead with the 30-30 as they are with the .35, plus the 30-30 gives you slightly better range.

this is what I'm gonna buy very soon for my new deer gun, http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/220F/ that a way I can hunt below the "rifle line" in the state, The NRA hunters magazine a few months ago had a real good article about the accuracy of this 20 GA and 20 GA ammo in general, and also a 20GA has more stopping power than a 30-30.

Does anyone else find it awful that the name "Savage" has a picture of a Native American next to it? Maybe it's just me.
