Wow, the unions are willing to freeze or pull ahead contracts to avoid RTW exodus.

Edit: This does not pertain to me but you get the gist of it.
The union is trying right now to freeze the current contract for 2 more years. The union leadership/ barganing team is going into negotiations 2+ months early to get the contract froze before the March 27 Righ To Work goes into effect. So that none of the current members can jump ship.
They are willing to ask for nothing and to freeze the current contract that has been in place for 2 years already.
Wow, talk about scared of loosing members.
The right-to-work law, although signed by the governor, won’t take effect until around April 1. Employees covered by union contracts that take effect before then will have to keep paying dues. So that is why they are pulling ahead contracts that end June 30th to freeze or renew before April 1.

LOL

any length added to a contract has to be voted on by the workers. If the majority vote does not want this to happen they will turn it down.

I think you guys will be surprised how many don't jump ship.

"the union" you speak of --- which is it? UAW agreement with GM is through 2015....

The only thing the union is worried about is keeping it's stream of union dues coming in through direct deposit. Once RTW is in effect, they will have to bill and collect it on their own. So the BEST they could ever do is get the same amount of money. They are scared shitless.

I never looked at it that way..thats a real good point
Yeah I bet they are scared..hahah

If it's taken pre-tax, then the workers may want to consider it. Of course that depends on their loyalty - I don't think that's the word I'm looking for, but I'm brain dead tonight.

Interesting. Let's see now, a union contract has been in effect for two years, the union wants to extend that contract for another two years. So in effect you have a four year contract. Here's what this gives you, by law a union contract can bar an election for only three years. This means that with this four year contract the employees, near the end of the three year period can file, with the National Labor Relations Board, a petition to decertify the union as your representative for collective bargaining purposes. With the required number of signatures, 33% of the bargaining unit I believe, an investigation by the NLRB will most likely result in an election being held. The question on the ballot will be "Do you want to be represented by XXXXX union". The union must win by a majority of the ballots cast to remain the representative for purposes of collective bargaining. Sometimes other unions, teamsters do this, show enough support to the NLRB to also be placed on the ballot. These are known as interveners. In such cases either union must get a majority of the ballots cast or no union.

Dues aren't taken out pretax. You were kidding right?

Oh really? Did you vote to have your union negotiate a two year extension? It's times like these that union members find out how little power they have. I'll bet that your union constitution can only be interpreted by the international president. Feel like you got screwed? Going to sue your union? Better think that one through you'll be up against the financial resources of your union.
