Hey...
I'm sure all of you who aren't my FB friends have missed me...lol I haven't been around here in a while thats for sure! It was good seeing everyone at WW over the summer. Aside from that I haven't made it to an event since last years Christmas Party.
I caught up with a lot of you at WW. I have had so much going on with my health, finances, etc. I think I updated a while back, but I will give a brief run down. I had my 3rd surgery on my arm in January. My surgeon open it up end to end (just above my elbow to above my wrist) I have limited use of the hand now. The fingers controlled by the nerve naturally curve towards my palm and my thumb is straight. I can move them and use them to an extent. I lost all feeling except for the pinky. I now have a condition called RSD on top of the nerve damage from the surgery and my RA as well as secondary fibromyalgia. I am on a slew of medications trying to control the pain associated with the RSD. My pain doctor is trying different things to try and control the pain to limit the amount of actual pain medication needed.
I have been unable to work since last September when I had the 2nd surgery. After 6 months I was eligible for LTD provided by my department. They eliminated our positions as of July 1st so I lost my insurance. Dealing with the "system is quite aggravating and is slowly bankrupting me! For anyone who does not have a short term disability insurance I encourage you to get one. I thought I had myself in a good financial situation, but after no income for 6 months before LTD insurance and then having to pay basically half of that for health costs and COBRA I wish I had set up a short term policy!
Anyway...aside from all of this the zoo and I are hanging in there. I still have 5 cats, Khan, the turtle and Chinchilla. They have/are really helping me deal with living with chronic pain. Not exactly sure where I would be without them. I have learned a lot in the last year...I have a great family and friends. I have also lost a lot of friends through all of this. Shitty, but guess they weren't really friends then.
I hope you all are well and have a great holiday. I am going to try and check in here more often and actually make it out to some meetings and events.
Happy Thanksgiving!
