Wow cable

Thoughts? They also offer Gigabyte internet, was considering that, anyone have it? How is it?

Other option is comcast which I currently have, their voice remote is nice, as is the X1 system.

It sucks don't do it, we had their service and averaged 14 Mbps and said we were paying for 110. Shit was a joke.

Measure your speed over a wired connection as wifi speeds typically aren't consistent with the service you're paying for. There are too many variables at play with wifi, such as the distance from the access point, signal quality, and wireless hardware limitations.

I've had them for almost 5 years, no problems at all. I have their 110/10 service with a CableCARD and my bill runs me ~$90 per month. They have no data cap like AT&T and Comcast, so if you're a heavy user, they're a great choice. I've pulled down 2TB+ a few times over, never an issue. Friends of mine with competitors regularly get friendly letters in the mail when they exceed the soft limits, and one of them even had his service terminated from Comcast.

WOW has been old faithful, but it's not the fastest nor is it as affordable to what it once was.

Used to be 40-50 for the comparable "ULTRA & internet 100Mbps + medium cable" that's 100.00 with 2 year contract or 120.00 monthly.

I've had them since 2004 and no issues. I only have them for internet. I got the 30/5 pkg for $25 month. I own my own modem and router setup

As long as your expectations are set correctly up-front, WOW is fine. I personally like WOW for Internet as there's no caps, minimal filtering, minimal "big brother" concerns, etc. I have their 60/6 package and I usually max it out doing a speed test at just about any time of day (wired PC). As for video service, their picture quality isn't the best, on demand is way less than Comcast, etc. In short, they are the value player... Internet is a solid product, video is a little weaker of a product IMO. I'm currently Internet-only though.

I loved WOW. had them for years. When I moved to my new area, it wasn't available and it really sucks.

I've used WOW since 2003 and until someone comes with fiber or a wireless solution like Common Networks, I'm staying with them. Speed is "good enough" though I'd LOVE more than 10 up for uploading video files. WOW has OUTSTANDING customer service and every other year I call and can usually get $10-$20 knocked off my bill for being a loyal customer.

Ive had WOW on 2 different occasions and it seems to work pretty well. I work from home a few days every week and as an engineer, I need to log into our work server all of the time and need to download large 3D drawing files. Both Comcrap and WOW seem to be about the same as far as the Internet.

I change back and forth between WOW and Comcast just to keep the price down when the 2 year promotional gig expires. I give them one chance to reduce the price and if they don't, I call the other company and set up an installation appointment. I don't threaten or cancel the service until the new one has been installed. Then when I call to cancel, I always get the old pricing, but it is too late by then. They will also call within a week to ask what they can do to get me back.

Just my .02....grr

They no longer offer the 30/5 package, they now offer 10, 110, 500, and 1000. I believe 30/5 was their 2nd or 3rd fastest at one time, so you may want to cycle your modem and router to see if you get a faster speed. When I had my 20Mb line, they progressively upgraded my speeds according to what they were offering at that point in time. They bumped me from 20 to 50, then 50 to 110.

Thanks for the tip. Wasn't aware I'll check it out tonight

Ok, so their Gb internet which is 1000/50 mbps is NOT fiber, it's still cable? Hmmmm.

Price isn't too much of a concern, they are both about the same.

Does anyone here have their 1000/50? What speeds do you get?

Thanks for all the feedback!!

I'd think their advertised speeds are spot on with what you get, assuming your modem and router are capable as well. I've always gotten slightly better than their advertised speeds.

Is their non-Ultra tv interface any better than 4-5 years ago? My parents only have one TV connected but have the Ultra system because the DVR capacity was much higher and the menus on the normal HD/DVR boxes were archaic. Would love to save money by removing the Ultra service from their account if the other boxes have caught up with the times.

Honestly, I've never met a provider supplied box I liked. They're all screwy in some way or another. I have an Nvidia Shield TV box in my bedroom, one in my living room, and my brother has a Xiaomi Mi Box in his bedroom. All run the Android TV operating system. I have a HD Homerun Prime network TV tuner that provides channels via a CableCARD ($2.50/month rental fee). All of the Android TV boxes support Google Cast, Amazon, Netflix, Kodi, Pandora, Google Music, Spotify, live TV, DVR functionality, gaming, and even smart home functions via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The Mi Box is great if you aren't doing any heavy gaming, they come in ~$70 at Walmart, while the Shield TV runs $200.

I don't have the Gig service, but I have no doubts you'll generally get very close to those limits up to exiting WOW's network. However, be prepared to upgrade your router, cabling, etc. Also, if you plan to bring your own modem, I think WOW just recently may have formally published that they support one. This has been an issue for a couple years since the modem list they publish as being compatible with 1 Gbps were all devices you couldn't buy -only rent. But I think some of the guys over on DSL Reports managed to purchased an equivalent model and get WOW to push a config to it. You'd have to check... or just rent.

The ONLY reason I'm considering staying with comcrap is their x1/voice remote. My daughter is 4 1/2 and she uses the voice control all the time for netflix and kids tv, without it I'm sure I'll get an earful LOL

All of the aftermarket set-top boxes have voice control (Android TV, Apple TV, Firestick, etc).
