Pro Stock vet Morgan will switch to Ford for 2010 season

Veteran Pro Stock racer Larry Morgan will make the switch from Dodge and will race a Ford Mustang in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series beginning in 2010.

“We are very excited to be involved with Ford Racing and think this is a great opportunity for myself and everyone here at Larry Morgan Racing Inc.,” said Morgan. “I am looking forward to working closely with Ford Racing Engineering in the design of new cylinder heads and blocks necessary to bring their Pro Stock program to the top of the class.”
Later this season, Ford Racing will debut its 2010-model Ford Mustang body, which has already been tested in the wind tunnel.

“Our goal is to have a Ford motor completed and be testing by Indy,” said Morgan. “I want to go into the 2010 season with a competitive engine program and a competitive race car, and I think the switch to Ford will allow me to do that.”

Morgan is tied for 10th in the NHRA Full Throttle Series Pro Stock points standings after eight events. The Newark, Ohio, native has 16 NHRA wins, including nine in Pro Stock.

I know Jim Cunningham has been trying to get a Mustang in to a NHRA Pro Stock show with Erica Enders driving, but Larry can flat out build a motor.

Cunningham has been using the old Ford engines that are just flat out to old to compete with the newer Chrysler and GM stuff. Cunningham busted ass enough to get someone's attention at Ford somehow because i had heard a couple months ago they were working on some new engine stuff with factory support. Between Ford's support and having someone that's been building competitive engines in the series while Ford has been absent, things are looking promising for some competitive blue ovals in pro stock for the first time in what? 15 years? Now if Glidden would just make a come back it'd be fucking perfect.

He really would explain the sudden change of heart at Ford with regards to NHRA Pro Stock. It went from Cunningham's pipe dream with no support to new engines and Pro Stock Mustangs in wind tunnels pretty quick, but not until after Wolfe took over.
