anyone using a wood burning stove in their garage i just bought one and want to set it up. the only thing is that im hearing so many different ways to do it. one person told me single wall is ok for the inside of the garage but when it goes through the ceiling it should at least be double. does anyone have any experience with these?

It's going to depend on what the wall is, block/masonary or typical stud wall.

My back wall is block, so it goes directly through the wall into the chimney. I also have single wall inside, it hasn't given me any problems. I also burn dry seasoned fire wood.

I do have a wood cabinet that is close but have a sheet metal guard that acts like a stand off. I have the block wall insulated with styrofaom (white) and a sheet of metal siding mouinted about 3 1/2 inches off of the styrofoam.
You can see the back of the stove and chimney here, it's an old stove.

If you have a stud wall, buy a through the wall kit from somebody like TSC and don't half ass it. Even if you do it right, burning the wrong stuff like green slab wood can cause this.

That was a result of creosote build up burning through a double wall pipe, they were using green slab wood.

gotcha, thanks!

I am also a little interested in learning about how I could use a wood burning stove in my home as a supplemental heating source. If anyone on the board is good with these things, contact me, I'm looking for information and suggestions, how to's & stuff, but I don't want to have a company come give me info.
