wood burner stove pipe

Looking for a local place to get the supplies needed to install my wood stove in my garage. Need 6 inch stove pipe. Also anyone on here have any experience with running chimney through the wall ?

Pipe needs to be triple wall stainless where it goes through the roof or out the side wall (6" sounds really small-they are usally 8-10-12")
Your not going to be able to install it to meet code.
Any ignition point in a garage (including plugs) need to be up the wall something like 36 or 42 inches. That goes for pilot lights and furnaces too, so unless your mounting it up 40" from the bottom your not going to meet it. Read the tag on the stove for clearances. They are usally 36"
Keep a good clearance around the stove-if possible they make some form of panels that deflect the heat from the wall.
Just use common sense. Keep paint-gas-aerosols as far as you can.

As others have said it's not going to meet local code.

Also if you disregard code the stove pipe does not go through the wall, it connects to a thimble which then needs to connect to a class A chimney.

im going to be putting up some sheet rock sheets on the walls behind the stove, stove will be in the corner. Will have it a good distance away from wall, and will keep all flammables away from stove. All of my recepticals are at least 36" up.

I have heard of this. But is it any different as if i were in my garage with propane heaters and if it caught fire?

Yes, it is a very big difference!

A heater or furnace will have safety valves
and shut offs. If there is a problem, you can’t
simply shut off your wood burner.

This is no small matter. As others have said,
Check with your insurance company / policy.
Some allow wood burners, some don’t.

AAA (my carrier) told me I can have one, but
they must be notified. I believe they would
want to check it & make sure it would be safe.

not worried about it. Im not getting a permit or anything, just want to do it safely

.....and you may find out you're no longer covered under your home insurance.

You do realize if your house/garage burns down because of it you won't be covered, right?

Not a local source but mail order in Michigan and ship quickly, try http://www.northlineexpress.com/. I would suggest using double wall stove pipe with class A chimney.

I am going to call my home owners and make sure it will be covered. I have talked to some people and they said it was about a 35$ extra per year cost. But this was for their policy, i know they all vary...and may not even be an option on mine. But I am checking into it

My home owners(All State) covers my stove in my house without issue, I also have a natural fireplace so I don't think they viewed it much different in my situation. I had to pull permits and have it inspected per my insurance company. If it's not inspected I don't see much hope of them covering you.
