Wheel refinish/powdercoating

Ok, the OEM finish on my saab wheels is very poor. Just removing the wheel weights on the outside at 500 miles (new) showed spots where the finish was too thin. its only gotten worse from there.

I was dumb and didn't bitch about it the 1st few months I had it, but now I have a chance to do something about it.

I am getting 2 wheels form a guy out of state, to replace the 1 wheel I had weldcraft straighten. What I want to do is powdercoat the 2 I have off the car, and then swap them on; then do the other 2.

Anyone have some hookups, or idea's who is reasonable for this sort of thing?

16" wheel, nothing fancy; just 1 solid color. but if I am gonna spend the money, I want to the finish to LAST.

Also, got idea's on a color? I was thinking about some shade of dark grey, would look good on a dark blue Saab 92x. Kind of overdone I know, but it works.

Thanks for any help, etc.

I can powder coat. I am at work so when I get home I'll post some pics of the mini wheels kyle and I just did for a customer. they are a semi gloss gunmetal texture. they look really nice in my opinion.

let me know if jengas option doesn't work out, or if you would like to just go with powder coat.

thanks both you guys.

Jenga, got your PM. Ill call you when the wheels actually get here.

347, looking forward to the pics.

We started it as a side job kinda thing, we are small time, so we can do stuff for cheap. We started getting kinda busy so we made it a 4 night a week thing. Im talking with trunk about where to send the money to become a sponsor, he is out of town and said he would get back to me. I also work in a machine shop full time, so its nice I can strip parts while I'm at work and have some down time. ItsAllAboutTheTAndA and I both wanna develop this into a full blown buisness eventually. We would just rather start off slow.

PM your contact info, I have an intake, up pipe and turbo shield I want done in white.

when you have them balanced, make sure they don't use clip on weights on the outside, use clip on weights on the inside lip, and stick ons in the middle, I can do it at work for you if you want to come to melvindale

The guy I did the cobra wheels already had them mounted, Im actually waiting on some pictures of them on his car.

Thanks for the offer tho.... I am actually looking for someone who will break down and mount wheels and tires.

I would really like to have a service for my customers so they could just bring me wheels with tires mounted and ill return them with tires mounted and balanced.

Kyle and I just dont want to be another powder coater, we wanna kinda go to the next level and allmost be like a part restoration deal. Maybe a shop that will do the entire job.

if you were closer we could work something out, but canton to melvindale is quite a hike

i would make that kinda trip, I have a 4cyl ranger or a powerstroke, they both get decent MPG.... Plus I would be hooking up a motown member, I would rather pay you cash then another shop across the counter.

Those mini wheels look nice. Can you put a clear coat over those to give them gloss?

As they are, are they smooth to the touch or do they have a rough texture?

Its a very fine texture, I have clearcoated a sample panel with that color, and it doesnt look right... maybe if I put 2 or 3 coats of thin clear on it might turn out better I dont know. It deff turned it glossy, but it made the effect of texture worse, You would have to see it. I might be able to get a gloss version of the same color, I havent looked into it yet.

they look really good in person, Im going to try and get a few pictures in the sun and then on the car. they change tones of grey when the light hits it diffrently. They look like what a high dollar wheel would have on it.

we do powder coating at my work, finish line power sports. really reasonable costs. few day turn around time. call the number in my sig. ask for rick in service.

I got 2 of them installed today. THEY CAME OUT AWESOME. Just how I wanted, not too dark; not too light. Exactly how the factory should have done them. Big thanks to Mike.

here are the pics:
