wheel dollies/tire skates?

I am thinking about picking a set up to help move my truck around the garage a little easier. The garage isn't deep enough to easily turn a vehicle sideways, so I'm looking for a solution. Anybody have any input? I have seen the Harbor Freight ones advertised dirt cheap, but I know their quality is questionable. I could make a set, but a decent set of casters alone are more expensive than the cheap HF set. What are you guys using?

I have a set of Go Jacks, One word amazing!!!! A single person car spin a suburban easily, Theres go jacks and then everything else.

I also have GoJaks. Model 4500 SuperSlick is the set to get for low cars/cars with really wide tires. Definitely expensive, but really nice equipment.

+1 on the Go jacks , but very expensive (the very best often are), but I have used the HF ones for years, used them on my 69 chevelle all 3 vettes & my 4K lb V coupe. I can move the vehicle all over by myself. Yes it's tougher than doing it with the Go-Jacks, but you can do it.

If you plan on moving the vehicle many times/or weekly over the winter, by all means spring for the Go-Jacks. If you're only going to move it a few times over the winter get the HF.

I have a set from http://www.car-dolly.com/ Made in Michigan and much less money than the Gojacks. I've been using them for ~15 years and never had any issues. I can push my car across the 1" expansion joint in my garage by myself. If you're just going to put the car on them, move it into place, maybe push it around a few times, and then leave it there until spring why complicate things with expensive ones with built-in jacking mechanisms that could fail?

This is kinda where I'm at. Its only a three car garage, so I'm not planning on pushing it across vast shop spaces (but I wish that was the case). More or less, I just need to be able to pivot the ass end around so I can get it sideways. The garage is barely deep enough to park the truck in front first, which means if I want to work on either end, the door has to be open. Plus, I'm too old to be climbing over this bitch every time I go in through the side man door. Lol

I would love the go jacks, but for as little as I'm going to use them, I'd hate to spend that kind of money now that I'm laid off for the winter. Thanks for the replies gentlemen!!!!!!!

I am afraid to move m car using the HF tire dollies, I'm afraid I will dent the car as much pressure it takes to move the casters.

if your close to brighton and just need to rotate the car you can borrow my gojacks to move it

Thanks Sir! I really appreciate that! I'll probably just pick a set up, because I know that once I get it moved, another vehicle will break, and I'll have to move it right back. I need to buy a big shop so I don't have these kinds of problems. Hahaha

Thanks again to everyone here. Once again, Motown delivers!

I have had a set from HF for years and they work fine. I only move the car a few times a year though, not day in and day out. I can move it fine by myself.

I believe that's the route I'm going to go for now. I just didn't want to waste the money on them without asking opinions first. Its not a bargain if the stuff falls apart the first time you use it. I was given a vise from HF as a gift, and it broke within a few months, but my sandblaster from there has served me well.

I have the Car Dollys at Moto Andy. How much are you looking to spend?

Damnit....I picked up some cheap ones earlier this afternoon. But thanks anyway Corey! If these don't do the job, I'll come see you when I upgrade. I figure it was worth a try for $40 per set. I'll report back with my findings. Lol

I have 2 sets of the harbor freight dollies and 2 sets of the car-dolly ones. The harbor freight ones are difficult to change directions because the wide metal casters seem to dig in or at least drag badly on the concrete. The Car-Dollies roll very easily until you find a crack. I had one hang up then slip out from under a tire and wedge under my 89 Mustang GT, which ripped the ground effects. I was very happy with them until that happened. The HF ones are about impossible to slip off of since they have the side bars, but they limit your tire size.

That is true but I have put a 315 drag radial and a 28x10x5 slick on them and still had room left. So unless your car has a huge tire you should be fine.

I was thinking more of my old truck. Its tires sat right on the side bars...and it was difficult to move due to the weight.

In fact that was the reason I got the other kind.

These Harbor Freight dollies aren't worth the fuel driving to get them. Standy? How did they work out for ya tonite?

Hahaha. I knew this post was coming. For anyone interested, I would not recommend these for a truck like mine. One push, and a caster snapped off. Welded it up, and on the next push, it bent the steel platform for the tire. Heated it up, bent it back, and then broke another caster off. These . May work fine for smaler/light cars, but they didn't get it done in this application.

Thanks again for the help, Stormy! I never could've drank all that beer by myself!

Im actually in the process of making a overkill set right now. Any chance your local and I could check out one of your HF wheel dollies? Im kind of curious what type of wheel to use. If these end up being bad ass I could fab up a few more if you still need some.
