What's your best price?

Do people actually ever respond with a price when someone asks someone what their best price is for something their selling? Are people stupid or just too lazy to negotiate?

When asked, "Whats the lowest you'd take"......

....I always reply, "Whats the most you'd pay".

I normally price things to sell, so I don't normally
play pricing games. I explain this nicely to folks and
they usually purchase from me.....at my asking price.

In some cultures, it is expected to "haggle" over the price,
no matter what it is.

What's my best price? The price I posted in the ad. When people email lowball offers I reply with an amount higher than the ad. I had my 2012 Camaro listed for $17.5k. I got about 20 offers a day for anywhere from $12.5 -$15k. My reply was always "For you $18.5k".

Honestly, it really isn't a half bad question, because it is amazing the amount of people that will start already coming down in price.

where do I start, i do buy and sell a few things so ive seen heard it all

I never talk prcing unless its face to face

most people dont have the balls face to face that they do over the phone/text/email

lowballing assholes get turned into porn sites

I recently bought a 61 Caddy off eBay in Rhode island, and it was a 'best offer' auction. I called the lady, we talked about the car, and I told her I couldn't make an offer without seeing the car in person, and asked what it would take to buy it. She told me a price that I felt was fair, and I bought it. I hated being 'that guy', but I didn't really have a choice.

That being said, I will never buy a car sight unseen again without having it inspected first.

Good thing I've never lowballed you

I never ask whats your best price. I ask "how negotiable are you on the price." It gives me a feel on what kind of offer I can make without insulting the person.

I actually had a guy get mad at me for not telling him my lowest price. I told him if my asking price wasn't low enough, what does he think a good price would be? He said that I was just trying to rip him off. When I countered with "arn't you trying to rip me off by asking my lowest price" he said "it doesn't work like that". People are nuts.

That's key. I usually put in my craigslist ads that I don't accept offers via email.

This. No offers unless you see it in person. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but seeing it before your eyes is worth millions more.

Saying that isn't always a good thing. I have bought multiple cars on craigslist, which were out of state, through emails, texts, or calls without ever seeing the car. We agree on price and I paypal them the money, 2 weeks later, I have the car. Also done it with other items not just cars.

I have never lost a sale because of it. I tell them if they want to make an offer, come and look at it. I tell them that standing in front of me with cash in hand means more than some stranger emailing them a number. Seriously, I tell them all this. Serious buyers won't give you a hard time. Assholes will, and they don't deserve my shit anyways!

I remember when I bought the SLP 3800 headers from you like 10 years back, the price was so good I didn't even bother with an offer

If I see an add that states $xxxx.00, (NOT followed by "Firm") If I'm seriously interested, I make an offer (maybe 5-7% less) saying cash in hand, where do I send it! I don't believe in low-balling/tire kicking.

If I'm selling something, I state "FIRM" on pricing. I won't even answer a "would-ya-take" texts or emails. If you research your market, pick a FAIR price & state that in plain English it should weed out the dirt bags. YMMV

If more details being requested are promptly provided without some shade tree response, I'll gladly arrange a meet-up IF I deem it necessary. Every sell/buy has its personal uniqueness, ymmv applies to generally.
