i got a 2004r from ridings and I want to order all the fittings I need to plumb it to the cooler in my radiator. -4 standard braided line gonna be ok? What fittings do I need that screw into the side of the trans?

-1/4 npt on the case side is pretty standard for GM transmissions of that vintage. I'd plumb with -6 for better cooling performance.

The orginial thread is 1/4 straight pipe. You can install a 1/4 npt to #6 fitting, just dont remove it once its in. Use thread sealer or tape, and tighten by hand. Over tighten it using a 1/4npt will crack the case.

My 4l80e has a special fitting in the back thats a little longer. It sticks in the case a bit. do they make anything to replace these?

so is it best to just use a 1/4 straight pipe fitting to a -6?

Yeah. When I did my tranny cooler lines I had them made up at a hydraulic shop. I think I had $60 in both lines. Ask for JIC fittings which are steel versions of AN. The outer jacket of the line has held up very well on my pickup..

When I get back to my laptop I'll drop you a note. I had a solution for this a few years back...

The fitting you have has a short tube attached that seals to the center support. There are three fittings available. One is a quick connect, the other two has either 5/16 or 3/8 female line fitting.

alright i ordered some straight 1/4 to -6 fittings with power steering fluid compatible blue/braided lines & fittings.
