quick question about heads. Maybe im just a retard, but what is the difference between 18* head and 23* heads... is it the valve angle itself or is it somethin else. and which is better , thanks

Bingo....

Now that BWB beat everybody to the obvious punch...

The angle refers to the valve angle relative to the piston face. 23 degree heads = 23 degrees from straight up. 18 degrees, 18 from straight up.

Typically, 18 degree valve angles (or less) tend to improve airflow.

For old SBC's (pre LSx) 23 degree heads were the production valve angle for years. Race head applications went toward 18 degree angles to improve flow.

FYI, LSx heads are 15 degree typically, and the LS7 is rolled up to 12 IIRC.

thanks for the info

Some more useful info. Almost everyone on here who says they run 23* sbc heads are really running 18* or 15* heads........and 1 or 2 who arent even running sbc's when they say they are. lol

but the good stuff is the raised runner rolled over stuff. even the riased runner 23* stuff is pretty badass.
