weird starting issue

im tryin to get the car buttoned up for the show at my mobile and i have encountered a problem. after i fired it up and ran it for about 30 sec to a minute i shut it down and did a visual check for oil leaks ect.... and everything checked out so i went to refire, and it cranks hard and hits a "tough spot" and the starter wont spin it anymore. it almost seems like if you have the timing too far advanced. i backed off the timing and still hits that same tough spot. if i roll it over by hand a half rotation or so and hit the starter it will fire.....:headscrat any ideas?

nope.... brand new and i had it tested for shits and giggles. and it passed. thanks for the response though

it doesnt make sense that you can turn it over by hand, but the starter struggles or "binds up" I would say you have some sort of voltage drop, but that wouldnt justify it turning over if you bar it over by hand then it starts fine

exactly my point and why i am confussed..... i guess i can take it to the show on sunday, ill just have to bring a breaker bar just in case:shutup:

check your grounds....id suggest getting a peice of 2 ga wire and making a new ground from the block to the frame rail. i had the same exact thing happen to my car and it was a ground issue

anyone know the part number for a sbf 5spd starter vs an auto? autozone and aap dont ask for it and cant look up for trans app so it could be for an auto maybe :headscrat

The starter can test fine when there is no load... But when you put a load on it... It will show if there is any dead spots or if the starter truly is bad...
