Found this interesting - not married myself, but hope to be someday and I only want to do it once!

Want a successful marriage? Play the odds

We're well into spring, the time of year when fancy turns to love and whatnot. If you're considering marriage, good luck. According to statistics, you're going to need it.
Even though divorce rates have declined since their peak in the 1980s, 40 to 50 percent of all marriages fail. How to mitigate?
For what it's worth, Men's Health magazine gave Grand Rapids a B on divorce. So maybe living here, as opposed to Las Vegas, is a good first step.
If you want to play the odds, author Anneli Rufus published a list of helpful (or, depending on your perspective, terrifying) statistics on the Daily Beast that may run counter to conventional wisdom.
For instance:
--Divorce is 27 percent more likely in "red" states than in "blue" ones.
--The more you argue about money, the more likely you are to get a divorce.
--Children of divorced parents are 40 percent more likely to get divorced. If your parents remarried, you're 91 percent more likely to get divorced.
--If one of you smokes, you're 91 percent more likely to get divorced than if both of you smoke.
--Couples who have a daughter are 5 percent more likely to divorce than couples who have a son.
--Non-Christians are more likely (38 percent) to divorce than evangelical Christians (26 percent) or Catholics (28 percent).
--If the wife is two years older, or more, than the husband, divorce is 53 percent more likely.
--Those with higher IQs are less likely to get divorced.
--Parents of twin and triplets are more likely to get divorced than parents of single-birth children.
--Same-sex marriages are more likely to end in divorce than opposite-sex marriages.
Have fun out there, everyone!
