Vortech 6 rib to 8 rib swap.

Hey guys I bought a vortech about 5 months ago and the kit that I bought came with the 6 rib pulley, belt and tensioner. Ive heard stories of the belts on the 6 rib systems slipping so I wanted to swap to an 8 rib pulley etc, before installing the supercharger. I know vortech sells a kit for this. Do you guys have any suggestions or input as to who locally would sell this.

This is for a 90 mustang.

Thank you.

8 rib setups and 10 rib setups are usually best purchased directly from vortech. I agree with Riekoo. Get the 10 rib setup for future upgrades.

you can find used pulleys all over the place. ID check corral, here, ebay etc. if its a new vortech kit the warranty will be void if you change the blower pulley yourself, vortech will only warranty it if you send it in to change the pulley for you.

as for the 10 rib vs. 8 rib it all depends. yes the 10 rib is best for hindering slipping however you will have to measure if it will fit or not. with my car, there is NO way that I can fit a 10 rib setup on my blower. It will hit my water neck on my radiator (and yes, I have cut the radiator neck down to 1"). Im using a 31x19 radiator though so its much larger than the stock unit. my 8rib setup rubs the neck a bit under hard acceleration.

I purchased the 8 rib blower pulley from trunk/Matt (on here) and a crank pulley off the corral. then i used the 6 rib idler and filed off the front lip on it to allow an 8 rib belt.

idler if you want it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vort...Q5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_2036wt_1044

they can be had for cheaper if you look around.

I'd just look up the part number at vortechsuperchargers.com for the pulley kit. It will come with the S/C pulley, crank pulley, belt, and tensioner.

You can buy anything vortech from summit and they have a ton of it in stock...

Actually thats what im doing, Im just trying to figure out what size crank pully I should get. Im planning on building a new motor in the next year or two and dont want to spend the money to turn around and buy a new crank pulley a year down the road. I guess I might have to suck it up, it all part of the game.

The 8 rib renegade kits with the 8" crank pulley are pretty bad ass. I have one on the shelf right now that will be put into use this spring.
