Vehicle license plate fees.

I honestly don't know why I never thought of that before. I always have a jalopy of some sort, and my birthday is today, so I usually park it around this time anyway.

^^^ I have friends that do this every year.

I guess its time I start!

(you only need the car title)

$123 For the 08 F150

$220 for the 2016 Expedition (but should be lower come december)

my 1998 saturn was $15 just before I sold it...

the cars down here in N.C. are based on NADA values...

Property taxes are way lower down here

the only thing that is more tax wise is the state income tax.... its 1 % more than michigan.

OH and almost forgot we have a food tax.

our gas tax is actually dropping... 36 cents last year..... 34 cents this year...

My brother owns homes in several states..... registers his vehicles (always has a dozen or so) in Mississippi.... something like 50 each.
I had a customer in my shop once from not long ago Texas.... plate on his duallie was Georgia....?
I asked if he moved? He said he registered it in Georgia because it was cheaper.
Georgia does not care where you live. He showed me his registration....Texas address.

Not sure what Michigan law on this is.... some states you have 60-90 days to change your plates (my sister got a ticket for this when she moved to St Louis -cop drove through their apartment complex, wrote down the date he saw out state plates and came back 90 days later and stuck a expensive ticket on her windshield) I have friends that keep their California plate year after year and they live here.

I'm sure you could contact Georgia SOS and ask.

Thanks! I'll have to look into this.

Next month I'm going to insure and plate my mud truck. I'm then going to transfer the plates to my new truck before my birthday. I've done this once before years ago, do they care how close you transfer it to your birthday?

I renewed the plate on my 61 Caddy 2 weeks before my birthday for the sole purpose of transferring it to my Yukon. They didn't say anything.

I used to play the plate transfer game a couple of years ago when I had 2 new cars and a Ford Escort beater. They registration for the Escort was like $57/year and the other 2 cars were over $200. It was a pain in the ass and cost me some time in multiple trips to the SOS office.

Visit #1 - Renew beater plate for the year
Visit #2 - Transfer beater plate to car #1
Visit #3 - Get new plate for beater
Visit #4 - Transfer beater plate to car #2
Visit #5 - Get new plat to keep on beater

One time I asked the woman at SOS if I can just do all this in 1 visit, but she said I can't. Something about their systems needing 24 hours to update.

I'm not so sure that is true. My buddy who has done this had a "friend"
at the SOS and they did do them all at once (several cars & trucks).

That "friend" retired, no new person to handle it, so back to the
"5 trips" method!
