will any valve spring meant for a hydraulic roller cam kill my hydraulic flat tappet cam

i purchased a set of GT40P heads on ebay and they came with double springs an were on a roller motor

Dont know.. You just dont buy springs and put them on..Installed heights and spring pressure ratings are important per cam profiles/ramp curves/degrees of durations etc....
Far as that goes how do you even know they are from a Hyd Roller Cam??
Never the less..used springs??
Not in my motor!!...

i spoke with the previous owner of the heads, he only had them on maybe 500 miles before he realised these heads arent going to make the power he was looking for

im going to pull them off and take them somewhere to get measured up, ill probably go to automotive machine since modern cylinder head always awnsers there phone....

Ok well that would be a good move...measure them make sure they are right..
I mean 500 miles a 1/4 mile at a time maybe.. is alot dont ya think???
Yer stuff bro...not for me with the chance of dropping a valve on a fresh motor build or so to speak.

I have to agree with Cheese here.

Did your cam guy recommend a spring?

Do you have a part number for the cam (if its a shelf cam)?

you really need to get the springs right with a FT cam. Too much, and you eat lobes. Not enough, and you beat the seats and valves up at the least.

Oh, and make sure they are set up properly. Meaning the correct installed height, seat pressure, etc. It wouldn't hurt you to invest in a spring tester (one that can be used with the head on the engine and the springs installed), this way you can verify what they (whom ever installed them) told you. You can get one of them for under $100.

Here's the P/N's you need:

Springs: 6513-A50

Retainers: 6514-B50
