UNOH school

I know there are some on the board that have attended there. I have only visited and the town itself will be a big adjustment if he doesn't live in the middle of no where currently.

I attended from 2010-2013. I took the automotive & high performance associate program. I liked it a lot. I have no other college experience, but I feel that I was over 100% prepared for the field. It was a great experience. I actually miss going to class picking the instructors brains, doing cool stuff like engine machining and flowing heads. Messing with engine tuning on the dynos etc etc.

with all the local programs why go out of state, macomb cc offers gm asep, ferris also offers gm asep, washtenaw cc has a great program. i also think certain baker campus do automotive too. the only thing i would say is get something that offers a degree instead of some bullshit cert. a degree you can use toward a bach. going forward.

Ferris no longer does the GM asep or any OEM program for that matter.

Well, I went to UNOH in 2004-2005 and realized the program was shit and the teachers taught only to get people to barely pass. There were some good instructors and the recruiters talk a great game. The housing was fucking terrible. 6 people to a small apartment. Weekly room inspections. You are fined if you fail. Some people failed repeatedly and were assessed $25 each time plus you get put on a shit list. Every student is there for the same thing and there are no girls. The town is a small shithole with nothing to do because you are in the middle of nowhere.

I work with a UNOH grad..... He grabbed a multimeter to check battery voltage and said the number was not right..... I looked at the meter setting and it was on AC..... I asked why AC and he said because the battery said AC Delco. That happened a couple months ago and it was one of the saddest days realizing that we attended the same school for the same program.

The diesel program was full of a ton of good ol' boys with lifted cummins and everyone argued who could tow more. 7 days a week 24 hours a day. None of the academic courses (even thought accredited) fully transferred when I went to FSU so I was forced to retake courses.

If the person in question is from Cleveland, have him spend a weekend in Lima. See how he likes it. When I was there you went to school 4 days a week so you got 3 day weekends which is nice because you can leave.

The place is a ghost town on the weekends. My brother and several people I know went to UNOH. I went down there on the weekend for the 4x4 Jamboree or whatever it was called and I literally only saw like 5-6 cars in the dorm parking lots on a weekend where there was a biggish event in town.

I spent most weekends traveling back to to MI on the weekends. Then I did a summer with USAC as a tech inspector and race official. which was nice to get out of town. I think I only spend 2 weekends there because I despised it so much in the 13 months I was there.

http://www.tri-c.edu/programs/automotive-technology/gm-asep.html there is a college in Cleveland that does asep apparently, all i know is that out of the few people i know that when to like a uti, unoh, the tution is 2-3x as much as a community college and you dont even have a degree. the gm asep or ford asset program you work in a dealer getting experience and earning money while going to school to help pay for it (unless you have parents or take loans this helps tremendously). just my experience then in 2-3 years after working in a dealer and then realizing that its not the 70-100k they told you it would be and your working 60-80hr a week, then decide to go back to school to earn a bachelors you already the associates to build off of.

Everybody I knew traveled back to MI as well. Even the 3.5 hrs all the way to Kalamazoo even with $4.00+ gas

I went to UNOH 01-03 wow that was a long time ago. The school and education like many others is what you make it. I learned a lot and my instructors went the extra mile making sure I understood what they were trying to teach. I would say a solid 75% of the students on campus were full blown idiots. Best of luck

^ accurate.

That is why I like Ferris State. It was more structured and had people who seemed to care about more than just fast cars (academics too)

The real bitch about UNOH is that each "class" is 6 weeks long and 3-4 hours a day (IIRC) So you can be a brand new freshmen you can end up in a electronics or be about to graduate and be in suspension and steering. This is rough because each "wave" of new students things their shit doesn't stink and has something to prove to some instructor as opposed to sitting back and learning.

I do agree on the "it's as good as you make it" statement. I made it work best for me and did very well there but it reminded me of high school auto shop instead of a college.

My cousin was there from 99-01 I believe. He learned a lot but it was full of retards. He said it was in a steady spiral down because the instructors were going back to working where they actually got paid. I think you're probably better off at Baker now because I haven't heard anyone that said UNOH was worth it.

I went there 11-14 and I enjoyed my time there. But definitely boring on the weekends when everyone leaves. Car scene is pretty ehhhhh. Lots of good ole boys with their lifted diesels blowing smoke lol
