turbocharging, whats needed?

I just asked him about it. Apparently it was a Borg Warner S400 - 74.5mm with a 1.32 A/R T6 turbine housing. The new one is based on the above turbo but was retrofitted with a 7-blade 88mm comp wheel.

7 blade ?? Sounds like a TV series wheel.

Exactly. So, he's taking the s400 chassis and basically making the PT88 compressor wheel (7-blade TV based wheel) work in it. Others have done similar types of turbos...

Not sure what wheel it is, but here is the 88mm S400:

It that inlet for compressor a pressed in piece ?Looks like a john deer turbo cover with a adapter pressed in. Sure looks like it????. They also did away with the MWE or "map width Enhancement Slots". Sure looks like TV series 88mm wheel.

Do you know which turbine wheel is in there ? Looks like the 1.32 AR t6 hotside

1.32A/R. The only modification is to the comp cover. The cover appears to have had a sleeve welded and then machined down. The wheel is a garret 88 wheel of some old variant they produced.

Innovative used to make these and sell them. Rick who now runs Exile Turbo had a few laying around, so i picked one up.

I really enjoy hot rodding. but turbo design is so incrediably sensistive to everything from discharge angle to fin curvature etc that I wonder if that thing should work ???

Anybody used a similar turbo before ?

I'm pretty sure Rick Head (Former owner of Innovative) has an idea of what's involved with modifying a turbo :)

the S475 with a 88mm comp wheels:

Rick says the turbo is good for about 1200HP. Rick said the turbo is easliy capable of 8's, infact this is the same turbo that Big Daddy ran an 8.67 on bfg's with a 76mm reducer.

s480 n a 300-380 ci motor is capable of the same type of ET's.

your probably right, however you would never run an 8.67 on a BFG with the S480.

I had a 82mm version of the S400 and the best it ever ran on a BFG was 8.69. Every MM is worth power.

With a slick the 80mm would do it.

The big draw back of this turbo is the small turbine wheel.

They offer a 91mm turbine wheel, thats a pretty big compressor/turbine spread. I am fiarly sure we had a car outta this shop 2 years ago that was gonna run those numbers on a 275/60/15 Hoosier DR. it went 5.69at 127 in the 1/8. Did it on a 1.38 60ft to.

It also made 815 to the tire. We have a few other cars making that kinda power and they all go mid to low 8's at 160 plus.

I don't have the slips here but if I find them I will post them up. If you bug Dpmcghee he most likely still has it.

this past summer I went 8.78@155 with a pt78gts in a 91 notchback on a 275/60 dragradial.

An s480 is stronger than that turbo, I think.
