Tune a Kenne Bell Mustang?

So I found a good price on a Kenne Bell 2.8LC for my GT500, it comes with a tune from Kenne Bell but I have headers, injectors and my cats are deleted so it wont work. Lund Racing does remote tunes and I have been told they are the only guys that can tune a KB throttle body to drive like stock. Seems like a lot of horror stories of guys waiting weeks to get tune files updated and of course your on your own with not personal support. Doing WOT pulls on the street in fourth gear probably isn't ideal either

Is there anyone local that can tune KB cars? It looks like Alternative is more of a Whipple guy? Looking for positive personal experience with a Michigan based shop tuning a KB mod motor.

Thanks,

Matt

Donny Walsh has tuned several. Give him a call and tell him steve sent you. 248-735-5555 he built my shelby.

Lund and kenB tuned mine and it hauls ass super simple and you really get a feel for what's going on with your car too

Lidio tuned my 2002 GT with a 2.2 KB. Im happy with his work. The driveability of the car is just like stock but with some actual power now.

Trouser, how long did the process take? Some people say a weekend and others have spent months. I'm sure I only hear half the story though. I know Lund has tuned thousands of these cars and even though I hear my selection of parts has caused several tuners issues, he has tuned this combo many times.

Did you rent dyno time for the WOT part of the tune, If not where did you find a safe stretch of road in the area?

Thanks,

I had talked to him last year and was great over the phone, his preference seemed to be with whipple and I didn't really inquire about the KB. He was also pretty set on keeping the cats on the car, a cat blowing apart at high boost and taking out my engine wasn't a risk worth taking so they are gone. He is certainly worth sending an email to again, I was impressed with what he had to say.

Lidio tuned mine and there were zero issues. Its a 2v with a 2.6KB. Its been on 110 and now e85. Give him a call or email is usually faster with him.

Alternative Auto set up my 2v 5.0 stroker with the 2.8 KB. It makes over 600 at the tire and starts/idles like stock. I drive it regularly and it's run like a champ for 7 years! It's true they do many Whipples these days but not exclusively.

Getting your car tuned on a dyno will be invaluable for drivability and "safe" power. These cars are expensive. Never get chintzy on fuel, tires, or tuning. That's my motto. :)

What kind of power do you hope for with the KB on tha 5.4 Shelby? What year is it?

If Lidio could tune one of my 2.6H KB Lincolns w/auto for perfect driveability at almost 600rwhp, then I am sure he can handle a mustang ;)

its a 2011,
1 7/8 ARH LT's with OR H and full stainless works 3" exhaust.
C&R Heat exchanger with dual puller fans
KB 2.8 LC with 168mm mono-blade
3" pulley 18lbs and a 2 7/8 race for 20lbs
injector dynamics ID 1000 injectors
bunch of suspension work to make it hook

Ill be a little disappointed if I cant put 700-740 to the pavement with the 3" and a little more with the 2 7/8 with either Torco or race gas. If I had a close gas pump for E-85 I would try that out, that's why I got the huge injectors as an option down the road.

Certainly don't and wont cheap out, the remote lund racing tune is $450 or in my case as an existing customer $250. But Im not enthused about the WOT logs without someone there in person to shut it down if it knocks or goes lean. I don't want to blow a $20k engine. If it ever comes out to be built I want that on my terms.

I have a '10 with a very modest mod list. I swapped out the blower to a Motorsports TVS and the C&L. Stock exhaust I'm at 605 rwhp with conservative tune. I've done minor rear mods and a solid driveshaft that gave me fits. Did you swap that yet or stock two piece? I was having clearance issues with the first 4" I bought in 2010. Have you had it to the track and did your suspension mods work?

740 seems a bit optimistic but with your other mods and the KB I guess it's possible. Would be a monster.

I agree, Dyno's are tuning tools and numbers are all over the map. Kenne Bell says a completely stock car with the stage 3 kit is good for 700 at the tire. Using ricer math for the headers and lack of cats, well you know.

I went with the Dynotech 3.5" shaft and have no issues at all. Smooth up to 140mph. Yes the suspension mods did help the car, I dead hook in second gear with all of the mods except the KB and injectors on a 20" drag radial. First gear I can roll into hard and do alright. the 20" tires don't help but it is a street car. I might pick up a drag set up next year.

BMR upper bracket, upper adjustable, adjustable pan hard, on car adjustable lowers. Set my pinion to -2 different from the trans flange, set the pan hard to center the axle in the wheel openings, set the lowers to have the thrust angle to zero and made sure my wheel base was set to factory and shortened the lowers to adjust thrust. I have Ford Racing L springs on it as well. That combo took all the wheel hop out and made it go straight, I did pick up some NVH however. So don't think that Poly bushings will ride like stock no matter what they tell you. I think its fine however.

I had a rear shock go bad so I have since added DBL adjustable rear shocks to it and put a single adjustable strut up front. Still need to play with those a little.

Good info! I need to spend more effort sorting out the suspension. I took the car to the track early on and was having driveshaft knocking under hard launch. Added some mild rear parts (I forget exactly) and swapped to the 3.5 DS. Haven't been to the strip with the car since. I'd like to run it but that driveshaft banging has me spooked. The new DS is carbon fiber. Take a knick out of that and it won't rub out. Lol

I like your build. The '13-14 kinda stole our thunder but the 5.4 is still great. Yours being aluminum makes it lighter/better than mine too. Keep us posted.
