Traverse City car scene?

Thinking of relocating to Traverse City. Anyone know if there's much of a car scene up there? From googling I found one performance shop with a Dyno not far, but otherwise not much else. Just curious how tough it'll be finding other gearheads as well as places to have quality fab/paint/performance work done.

Mmmmmmmm... they have cherries? Snomobiles. Performance parts can be shipped in/out via the bush plane or rail service.

:) Dr Teeth will chime in i'm sure with facts.

Traffic City is what it affectionately known as, I don't see much of muscle car action but there are lots of lifted Subaru people there and lots of stance people down there. It is about an hour from my house but I avoid that area as much as I can during the summer because of traffic congestion. The infrastructure isn't built for all that traffic.

Yeah, not sure what to expect from trunkslammer season but when I've been up there as one it was tolerable. Looking at the Old Mission and Sutton's Bay areas so hopefully traffic would mainly just be when we have to go into the city.

I am up in the TC area around Memorial Day, and again sometime during the summer. I have seen very few muscle cars, more Subarus and pickups than anything.
My nieces split time with their parents in TC & Northport.

I have had a little place near Traverse for a while and try to get up there a couple times a month. Very sociable environment where the beer is truly a measurement of time. (Went here for a couple of beers, went there for a beer and so on.) While I am not aware of any specific car clubs, being a touristy area there are always car shows going on in the summer. Seems the little towns up there always have a festival going on and many have shows as part of that. Probably more 4x4, off road, geezer glide clubs than car clubs.

LoveFab inc. is located in Buckley about 20 miles from Traverse. I hear he does pretty good work. He does seem to specialize in imports. Northern Michigan Dragway is an 1/8 mile track about 40 miles away in Kaleva. There is a Michigan Drag Racers FB page that might give you some insight into performance shops in the area.

I like the area. Traverse City proper is nuts and in the summer it’s pretty crazy. Don’t have to go too far out of town though for a little space but again they do depend on the tourist industry up there. Got to have a snow management plan. Figure on moving snow from November thru April. Big snow December thru March (most years).

My wife is from TC used to go up quite a bit. They used to have a weekly car show at the Culver's of US31 near Chum's corners. As far as traffic goes it's is still much less congested then any highway in S.E. Michigan. One week a year in July it's bad down town but it's still tolerable. Tate's Auto body does very good paint work, I've seen a coupe shops off S. Airport near Garfield that were classic car shops with a few nice cars out front. I'm sure it's like anything, just start talking to people and you will find them.
