ok have a c4 with following components, so i was told when I bought it..

all PA stuff..

reverse manual valve body
hardened input shaft
servos
10" convertor.. anti balooning plates, 3800

anyways....get it on the ground today and fire it up let it warm up to check the fluid level.. it was low so I added to it and let it set for a minute check it again and level was fine according to the stick... its a ford racing dipstick.. there appeared to be some small bubbles in the fluid that was on the stick (significance?) ok so I try to put it in gear reverse is good (hits pretty hard, may be ujoints though..)went into nuetral pulled it down into what should be 1st gear and it i can feel it hit but it wont go anywhere you can feel it lift a little like it is going to go but nothing... pull to 2nd from a stop jerks again...moves just fine, pull to what should be 3rd and it car moves..

im not too familiar with auto transmissions but is it possible that it may not be the valve body he claims it to be?? could it be forward pattern?? when I bought it he said he did run it in his car and he gave a reverse pattern quarter stick with it...

any help would be appreciated.. if you need more info just ask and i'll fill you in. Thanks

sounds like the 1st gear clutches are toast or a seal leak. i'm not sure how c4's are put together, if 1st is totally seperate from 2nd and 3rd i'd say there a problem in the first gear clutch pack, most likely a piston seal is shot leaking fluid so there's no pressure on the clutch plates.

usually its good to run it through the gears on stands before lowering the car and trying to move it. you need to make sure the fluid is worked back through all the servo's and everything is flowing well before putting pressure on it.

also sometimes you get air bubbles in the convertor (generally on new installs) and you have to shut the car down and start it back up running it through the gears again.

see if your problem repeats after running it with the wheels of the ground, shutting the motor down for 5 minutes and do it all again. then try to drive it and see how it reacts. if it's the same you have an internal problem.

sounds to me like you may have your shift linkage out of adjustment, and when u go all the way back for 1st gear, its not going in all the way and the manual valve that the linkage is connected to is not fully alowing hydraulic pressure to your 1st gear.

Try going throgh the gears on jack-stands, with your shifter disconnected, and just use your hand on the side of the trans to run through the gears
