Ok so I'm fed up with the 6-speed. I want to swap in an auto. Who has done this and what are your recommendations? I was thinkin about going with a 400 turbo, reverse manual valve body with a 4000 converter and possibly a t-brake. Comments are very much welcomed!
 
4r70w is a nice trans.


Overdrive and it has 2 gear ratio options.

2.40 first and 2.84 first.

Same wieght as a 4l60e takes up the same amount of space you can reuse your existing driveshatf I have it available with Manual valvebody and transbrake. Valvebodys are all foward pattern though.

If you are intrested call me I can qoute you the whole job including the shifter.

We run them at 700+ to the tire without any trouble. Nice trans capable of big power.

What if you can get a light strong Overdrive that has the same gear ratios as a th400 wiegh 10 lbs less and is almost as strong as a standard built th400 ? The answer is 4r70w. Lots of 8 second cars running them.

Mid to high 11's at 121 at the moment, Shootin for 10's this spring. Car weighs about 3500 with me in it.
 
i no a fella who went mid 8's for tw0 seasons on a rebuilt th400. not alot of bells and whistles either. manule valve body and a t brake. have fun trying that on a stock 4r70w. it is a great transmission for sure im not doggin it. a jerry spec 4r70w is a bad sonamabitch but its alot more $$$ i have an aode built like a 4r70w. wratchet sprag and all. and after burning it up for the 4th time im pulling it out now. ( i no the transmissions are two different beasts but still)

that being said... if it is just an occasional strip car no od is gunna suck as stated above. but if he threw out a th400 as an option i was assuming were talking race car.

What's wrong with your 6-speed?
 
my 90 ss has a 454 with a 3 spd t400... 3.73 gears no joke your going to wish you had od... 2800 to 3k at highways speeds in a v8 gets old quick.
