What does it mean when you take out the trans pan, there are no shavings in it?

I was told there was sopposed to be some in there because its normal. I know this sounds like another dumb post but im serious and just wanted to make sure. thanks

Well no debris is a good thing. Could mean someone changed the filter and washed the pan. Does the transmission have a problem ?

Shaving are NOT normal, a little bit of black, dirt-like stuff is fine b/c it's from regular clutch wear but shavings should not be in the pan.

No it just had a gasket leak, i was told that adding new trans fluid can wear it out more because im putting the detergents back in. So i just thought while im at it i may as well change the filter too.

^Yes that's true. All the clutch material and dirt accumulate on the walls of the trans case, they stay there if the fluid id old and fucked, but if you put in new fluid it will clean the walls and the pump will pick up the crap and put it through the trans. I always say do trans services all the time, or never, my cars never get it b/c I but them used and don't know the history, never had one go bad yet. What I'd do it drive it for a week with the new fluid then do another filter and new fluid to really clean it all out...but that's me.

Well, the fluid was pretty clean. it seems like the trans is in decent or better shape. I really havent had any problems with it.
