I have a 1997 gmc jimmy with a 4l60e. Last year jan 5 I broke the rear end, it sat untill about a week ago when I had Scott at Driveline Solutions install a new diff. on the way home the truck drove fine shifted good drove about 15 miles about 5 city stop and go and 10 I94 then I decided to grab a bite to eat and let the rear end cool. I got off the freeway and got to the first light everything went fine shifted fine once again then at the second light when the truck tried to shit into second the trans locked up. It will still drive just fine in first and reverse but second gear is locked up. My friends said when I broke the rear end it might have shocked it and broke a planetary. I called the trans guy and he said he doesnt think it was caused by the rear end but he wants $800 to pull it out and rebuild it. I just had this trans put in about 13xxx miles ago its almost brand new. I can build it myself I was just wondering what you guys think it is. If the planetaries broke how could it have driven so far with no problems?

Could be it rolled over the sprag in the forward drum. I think this could have easily been cuased by the rear end fialure.

x2...very easily caused by the rear axle failure, and 800 is cheap. I would jump on that price if all parts needed are included.
