trans: drop or pull up ?

Looking into replacing the trans in an AWD fusion 2.0L and am uncertain of the best method to go with when not having a hoist.

Is the trans only able to dropout from the underside or can it come through the top by itself? The sub-frame looks like its a welded "square" assembly meaning the whole sub will need to come down. Does it need to just drop down in the front (if it can) or will everything need to be removed off from it then lowered down completely? Accessing the top area, the welded trans bracket to chassis is blocking a good portion of room, but will a load leveler remedy that concern? T-case doesn't appear it will need to be removed 100%, maybe just tied off out of the way?

Only information I found was the estimated "time" for R&R... 5 hours...?... If that is accurate, I'm very interested to know which method was used even more now?

we do them out the bottom, with a hoist and hanging the engine from above, it can be out in ~2 hours

we completely remove the subframe, pull the PTU(t-case), the pass. side axle goes through and into the trans, so it needs to come out, there is a heat sheild on top of the PTU that needs to come off to access the mounting bolts, as well as one or 2 bellhousing bolts

Ford says to replace all the suspension and subframe mounting bolts
 
Ended up dropping it out. About 2.5 hours with no hoist. Those axles must touch each other within the trans! Long suckers.

they just about touch the center pin in the diff., so probably less that 3/4" from each other

you rebuilding your trans or swapping in a J/Y unit?
 
I thought that was the case (no pun intended) with the shafts.
swapping in a 10k unit. The t case is being Jenner by not aligning with the trans with the axle protruding thru. Might need to fully remove the pass side axle to coach it in.

quite likely, I never tryed it with the axle in place
