tps sensor

I was going to install a tps sensor on a truck for my aunt. The truck is a 2001 gmc 1500 (V8). I figured it would not be too in depth. I glanced through the haynes manual and it states that if the negative battery terminal is disconneted and the vehicle is equiped with a anti-theft system the sterio will lock itself out. There is a code that can be programmed into the system to get it back running but the problem is we dont know the code. It was my uncle's truck and he passed away a few months ago so we have no way of knowing where he wrote down the code or if he even had one. Is there a way to reset the system without having to take it in to the dealership to reset the truck. Thanks for the help :)

Why would you disconnect the battery to change the TPS sensor ? just change it with the key off.

That's what I wanted to know too but it said to disconnect it in the manual, which had me curious why. I guess I'll just install it without the key off and see what happens. Thanks.
