you just changed 4 lifters?

yes the 4 where the tick sounded like it was coming from.Today changed the header gasket that takes that out.Ran car with valve cover off tick is coming from cylinder 5 push rod looks streight rolled it across flatest serface I have kitchen table had no wobles.

any busted springs, retainers, seats? hows lash? did you check any of that when the valve covers were off?

Over rev? When you say that what kind of rpm are we talking about? I know of a few people spinning stock lifters to 7500 rpms with no issues. I would redo the valve lash on all of them and go from there.

Yes took the valve cover off ran the car tick is at cylinder 5.Hey casper bought some parts off u couple years ago when u had the black notch. 5500 rpm Iam not sure if iam lashing them right going off you tube videos call me dumb no one has ever showed me the righ way. Non my friends are into cars.I live in romulus will be willing to pay some one to show me how to lash the lifters. Thanks for the replies.

I would say you're not getting enough preload and when it get's in the higher RPM its collapsing. I did the same thing when I first got into a hyd roller, kept ticking and losing power. This is how I was taught.

I start out on the passenger side and I loosen up all the poly locks and rockers then I begin with the #1 Cylinder on the intake valve. First thing I do is "zero" out the exhaust valve, basically tightening the poly lock down, while you tighten it down you wanna twist the push rod and tighten (By hand) till the push rod will no longer twist. Then what I do is turn the engine over till the EXHAUST VALVE is fully open. Once its fully open I adjust the intake valve, I tighten the poly lock by hand and use the push rod as my guide, once I feel the tension I take my allen key and wrench (5/8 or 9/16) and turn the poly lock 1/4 of a turn... Then tighten down the allen. To do the exhaust valve now you will wanna loosen the poly lock(on the exhaust valve) until the valve is closed. Then you turn the engine over till the intake valve is fully open and do the same tighten sequence as the intake. Pretty simple, takes some time and patients.

Relashed swapped some rockers and push rods around see if the ticking changed cylinders.IT did rocker now is exhaust 6 all the rockers shoot a good amount of oil that one does not just dribbles.

My vote would be a bent valve. Dependign on how far you over-rev'd the engine the lifter can float and will smash the valves into the pistons. Bad news. The smoke from the carb is a dead-giveaway...
