Through hole stripped on trans mount flange

Aluminum trans case. Through hole. Is best way to repair using a heli-coil? I've used heli-coils on dead holes with success but have not tried one on a through hole.

Thanks.

I have installed many heli-coils on through holes, it can be done, break the tab off of the heli-coil when you are done installing it. If everything is done correctly and you thread the bolt in straight, you shouldn't worry about "pushing" the coil through the hole.

Is this a high traffic bolt?

If it is a bolt that you might not have to take out again, worst case scenario is that in the case you do, you have to install another coil.

Longer bolt and a nut?

I thought about this and may still try it. The problem is a strengthening rib on the trans case that gets n the way. I thought about putting a bolt in backwards with part of the head ground off. It's my son's car I have yet to mess with it.

This is not a high traffic bolt. The hope is that we will never take it out again. With all the new power he's building into this thing it may need a clutch before too long. In that case the trans may have to come out (neon srt4).

If the trans is stock, it might end up mangling the shift fork at some point. Might open him up to needing a whole new trans.

What sized bolt is it? I have a few Heli-Coils here and more at work. I also have the inserts called Riv-nuts that work. I also have a pretty good assortment of Grade 8 Bolts if you want to go that route.

Pick one....LOL

Yikes...hope not! He's putting in the poly mounts and that should help keep movement down. Trans seems pretty tight now and he says he's not gonna power shift (yeah, right!)

Gar,

The boy says it's a m10 x 1.50, will have to measure length later. Thanks for the offer! I'll be in touch!

The boy went and got some heli-coils and fixed it all by himself today. I'm proud of him.

Thanks for all of your suggestions and help guys.
