Sooo.... I haven't really had a "toy" car in a while. I'm debating if I want to get another one. I was really wanting a Cadillac CTS-V wagon (stick preferably) but those things are holding their value ridiculously well and I can't see paying $55k for a 5 year old used car even if it is likely a future collectible. I've always leaned toward the oddballs and/or sleepers so right now I'm considering these options:
1) Cadillac CTS V-sport - twin turbo V6 fun that I can daily drive year round if I buy winter tires for it.
2) GMC Syclone - I have wanted one of these for forever and the prices aren't too crazy. Looks like you can pick a decent one up for upper teens, low twentys. I'd have to do some research here to know what to look out for and also, it means I still need a DD that I'd be scraping snow off all winter. AS I've gotten older I've realized I like my spot in the garage.
3) A nice classic car of some kind. I'm not sure what but I tend to like the odd balls so it's probably not going to be something as common as a Camaro, Trans Am or Mustang. Maybe some funky AMC product? Rambler Scrambler? Rebel Machine? A Chevelle Laguna S3? 66-67 Chevy/Buick/Olds almost anything? Wildcat maybe? Some mid-70's unloved oddball but with a decent engine in it rather that the 160 hp 455 big block it came with?
4) Crazy idea car - Vega, Chevette or Monza with a modern turbo 4 banger? This will never happen because i don't have the skills to do the swap myself but it would be a pretty sweet oddball.
Option 1 is the one most likely to become reality. You can pick one up still under warranty for 30 -35K. Option 2 is the one I most want (aside from the CTS-V wagon I'll never buy) but there is no room for the kids and I've never taken the same liking to the Typhoon that I have the Syclone. Option 3 is the long shot possibility. I've always loved classic cars and would love to have my 66 Chevelle back or a nice 66-67 Nova but for the most part the prices of those cars have moved outside what I am willing to spend and I've sadly become accustomed to certain creature comforts most of these cars will lack. Option 4 has exactly a 0% chance of happening but is fun to think about because not too many people would be dumb enough to actually do it (apparently including me).
What do you guys think?
