Exactly.
to get the mpg they wanted everything in the 6 is light. no spare either.I'd have to say there is something else going on with it. The driveshaft should not let go at that speed, or anything really under say 200mph if the car could do it. That is not a very big safety margin, if its limited at 115 and it broke at 135...
I don't see them using a steel driveshaft anymore on these do they?
I know I had a new, bone stock 93 that I took up and down 275 one night way back and had it pegged out, the speedo read 140-138 or something, it was not smooth but it wasn't vibrating all over the place, how is it that something new and so much more advanced would fail?

GT gets a 2 piece shaft(supported). they use a 2 piece do to the lack of space between tanks/exhaust(the after market does make larger diameter 1 piece units though) The critical speed goes up as diameter increases.
Maybe the car had gears also?
Good to know that my Dodge Journey will put a whooping on Ford's vaunted 305hp Mustang.
